My name is Liz, and I am a college senior with a major in mathematics and minors in computer science and statistics. I have taken classes in Education Psychology, General Psychology, Introduction to Teaching, and Childhood Development. I have tutored for 4 years and have worked with students ranging from second graders to college seniors in both group and one-on-one settings. My tutoring journey began in an elementary school special education classroom, where I worked with 1st and 2nd grade students. This experience pushed me outside my comfort zone and gave me valuable insight into the challenges students can face. When I started college, I began tutoring students individually during my freshman year.

Throughout my sophomore and junior years, I continued private tutoring while also working as a tutor in my college’s mathematics department. Over the years, I have led group tutoring sessions with as many as 20 students and have worked one-on-one with approximately 35 students. One of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring has been building strong relationships with my students. Many have returned to work with me across multiple semesters and courses, allowing me to support their academic growth over time. My career goal is to become a college professor, driven by my passion for teaching, love of math, and desire to make the subject more approachable and attainable for students.

Upon scheduling an appointment, I like to reach out to students in advance to learn about the topics they would like to cover. This helps both of us come prepared and allows me to tailor the session to their specific needs and goals. In my tutoring, I rely heavily on examples, ranging from foundational problems to more challenging edge cases, to help students develop a well-rounded understanding. I place a strong emphasis on active learning and comprehension. Rather than simply looking for a student to agree with an explanation, I want them to be able to articulate the underlying concepts in their own words.
