Hello there, my name is Ian! I attained an undergraduate degree in Astrophysics and started grad school for the same topic before realizing my passions extended more to education than research. I entered industry as a Data Scientist for a few years before returning to my roots as an educator.

I absolutely love physics and chemistry. Unraveling and understanding how the physical world around us works has always been a passion of mine, and I've shared that passion with countless people during my time as a public educator at Lowell Observatory. During my time there, I learned how to engage with people of all ages, to explain things in a way that made sense, and to work with people to unlock true understanding of the world around us. I've explained concepts of nuclear fusion to middle schoolers, galactic scales to grandparents, chemical reactions to college students, and more. While enrolled in grad school for astrophysics, I ran several lab classes and lectures for physics, astronomy, and programming. This helped me build up skills surrounding structured lectures and lesson plans. I was able to support a wide variety of students through their math-heavy course load and enabled them to be successful at understanding complex topics.

More recently, I've taken up tutoring just through word of mouth and found that I absolutely love it. I've helped students with no knowledge of physics or chemistry pass their classes with flying colors, and from what they tell me, they have fun while they do it! I enjoy the process of learning and find helping students reach that "ah ha!" moment of understanding extremely fulfilling.

I hope I'm able to show you the wonders of the natural world in a way that improves your grades, expands your understanding, and primes you for your future goals! Feel free to reach out to schedule a session, and I look forward to working with you.

Astronomy

My undergraduate degree is in astrophysics and I taught a wide range of levels of the subject, from general public, all the way through undergraduate lab/lecture courses. I spent 3 years researching multi-stellar protoplanetary disks, collecting research-grade data using state of the art telescopes in person and remotely, and presented that research at various academic conferences.
