I have worked with many students of various ages and abilities, including those with special needs. I am most familiar and have worked with more students who have ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s, Cerebral Palsy, and/or spinal cord injuries; however, I do know quite a bit of information on other learning and physical disabilities. I am a graduate of Wagner College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre design, technology and management. While I do offer lessons in various subjects and disciplines, I have the most experience in teaching high school Spanish, and a variety of math levels. Grammar and Elementary English/Reading are my next best subjects to teach. But as I mentioned, I do offer a variety of other subjects and material.

I am based out of Central Bucks County, PA, and will work with students in Bucks and some parts of Montgomery counties. I am currently available for online-only lessons. In-person lessons will only be offered in rare cases.

My hourly rate is fairly lower than most tutors, who average at around $50-$60 per hour. I do this for two reasons: I love to teach and would do it for free since it is not my day job. That being said, all jobs require some form of cost, thus if I want to be able to continue to offer my services to students now and in the future, I must charge something no matter how little it may be. Second, I know what it’s like to come from a family with limited funds. Most parents would do anything to make sure their kids can get the best education out there, but sometimes it just isn’t financially possible, especially when many tutors are averaging at such a high rate. I keep my rate low in hopes that I can offer my services to those students who might not otherwise be able to get the assistance they need. That being said, for some families even my low rate is still too much for them to afford. If that is ever the case, I ask the family to inform me of the situation and give me an estimate of what they believe they can afford, and I will do my best to honor that rate. After all, ever

Theater

Theater

I am studying theater with an emphasis on the technical production-side of things in college. Most of my sophomore, junior, and senior year of high school was spent onstage or backstage. I performed in two musicals (Hairspray and Oklahoma) and one play (A Midsummer Night's Dream). My senior year I was the assistant stage manager for a play (The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged) and one musical (Cabaret). As a stage manager I assisted actors with lines, helped the director take notes, and a lot more. I may not be an expert in theater (at the moment at least), but I know a lot and more than enough to tutor a student. If you'd like to know more just ask!

Grammar,

Grammar

Grammar is my favorite topic. I don't know why I enjoy it so much or how I acquired such a knack for good grammar, but I am really glad I have. While I've never formally taught the subject, I have had many of my friends and classmates ask me questions on whether they should use a comma there or does an apostrophe go here. I also tend to correct people's grammar a lot and when that happens I usually get the question "well why is it this way and not that?" and must explain.
Spanish,

Spanish

I have studied Spanish for five years and was always one of the highest scoring students in my classes. While the Spanish I was taught is mostly the dialect spoken in Spain, I am familiar with some of the Latin and South American dialects of the language. In addition to the language, I am also familiar with Spanish culture in all parts of the world. Reading and writing are definitely stronger points for me, but I can comfortably speak it and hold out a conversation.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

Once a month during my sophomore and junior year I worked with elementary school students on math concepts like lattice, factor families, and multiplication tables. Even though it has been a while since I actually did elementary math, I understand the basic concepts well enough to assist students.

Reading,

Reading

I have two years experience in an elementary school’s after school homework help program working with children age 7 to 12 on math, spelling, reading, and occasionally social studies. I spent one month in a classroom placement in which I co-led a small group of 2nd graders in a reading circle that involved each student taking turns reading aloud a pages from a short book. Upon finishing the book, the students would do a short activity (usually writing) and we’d have a discussion about both the book and the assignment pertaining to it.

Algebra 1

Similar to pre-algebra, algebra 1 is a foundational course. Without it, students cannot succeed in higher level math and science classes. Out of any other math, the concepts involved in it are no doubt the most used in and out of the classroom. While I have only tutored one student in the subject, I have assisted my younger sister and classmates when they had gotten stuck on a few concepts. I use algebra on a regular basis so my skills are very sharp. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Special Needs

ADHD

ADHD

My junior year of high school I took a school-age child development class. In that class I did an intensive research project on childhood ADD/ADHD; however, a lot of my knowledge of the condition was gained by working with children with the disorder. My 10-year-old niece has a slight case of ADHD and babysitting her has taught me a lot. My sophomore year of high school I volunteered at a daycare/preschool where a lot of the children had special needs and I also tutored elementary school students in a special ed class and some of the children had some form of attention and hyperactivity disorder.
