I am a mathematics tutor with 14 years of experience and a strong academic background, including engineering degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels and two additional graduate degrees in computer science. I have taught a wide range of subjects—Algebra, PreCalculus, Calculus, IB HL/AL A&A/A&I, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Discrete Math, and Advanced Calculus—working with both high school and college students. My experience includes one‑on‑one tutoring as well as leading group classes of 10–20 students at Kaizen Learning Center.

Teaching math is something I genuinely enjoy. For many years, I worked as a software engineer during the day and tutored in the evenings and weekends because helping students grow in confidence is deeply rewarding. My approach is to meet students where they are, understand how they think, identify gaps in their foundation, and guide them step by step toward solving problems independently. Rather than giving quick answers, I help them build strong reasoning skills.

Over the years, many students who once struggled with math have gained confidence and significantly improved their grades. My SAT and ACT students consistently perform at a high level, with several earning perfect scores.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have over 14 years of experience tutoring ACT Math, helping students strengthen core algebra, geometry, and trigonometry skills while building the speed and accuracy the test demands. I focus on diagnosing skill gaps early, teaching students how to recognize problem types, and guiding them toward efficient strategies that consistently raise scores. My students have earned high and even perfect ACT Math scores by learning how to think through problems, avoid common traps, and apply concepts with confidence. I bring a structured, supportive approach that helps students improve quickly and perform at their best on test day.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with extensive experience tutoring high school and college students in mathematics. Algebra 1 is a course where many students first encounter truly foundational algebraic thinking, and building confidence at this stage makes a tremendous difference in all future math courses. My approach is to help students develop a solid grasp of core concepts—linear equations, inequalities, systems, functions, polynomials, and introductory quadratics—while showing them how these ideas connect and build on one another. I focus on strengthening problem‑solving habits, recognizing patterns, and choosing the right strategies for different types of questions. This structured, step‑by‑step approach deepens understanding and gives students the confidence they need to succeed in Algebra 1 and beyond.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with extensive experience tutoring high school and college students in Algebra 2. Over the years, I’ve found that Algebra 2 is a major step up from Algebra 1, and many students struggle as the course introduces more abstract thinking and a wider variety of functions. My approach is to help students compare and connect the key function families—linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, radical, and rational—so they can recognize patterns, avoid confusing similar concepts, and choose the right method when solving problems. This structured, comparative approach strengthens conceptual understanding and builds the confidence students need to succeed in Algebra 2 and beyond.
Calculus

Calculus

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with extensive experience tutoring high school and college students in calculus. Over the years, I’ve found that most students understand basic differentiation and integration rules but often struggle with applying these concepts—especially in related rates, optimization, and finding areas and volumes. My approach is to identify exactly where their conceptual gaps lie, teach them how to read and interpret problems carefully, and guide them through step‑by‑step reasoning so they can solve calculus problems independently and with confidence.
Common Core

Common Core

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with extensive experience tutoring high school students across districts that follow Common Core–aligned math curricula. Through this work, I’ve seen how the standards emphasize conceptual understanding, multiple representations, and problem‑solving strategies. My approach is to teach the underlying concepts clearly while also preparing students for the types of assessments and exam formats they are likely to encounter. I help students build confidence by strengthening their reasoning skills, clarifying misconceptions, and guiding them through structured, step‑by‑step problem solving.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with more than 20 years of experience as a software engineer. Discrete mathematics has always been one of my strongest subjects—I earned perfect scores in my graduate‑level discrete math courses and have continued to apply those concepts throughout my career. My background in software development gives me a practical lens for teaching topics such as logic, sets, combinatorics, recursion, graph theory, and algorithms. I explain concepts using clear reasoning and real‑world examples, helping students understand not just how discrete math works, but why it matters. This approach builds confidence, strengthens problem‑solving skills, and prepares students to succeed in computer science, data structures, and higher‑level mathematics.
Geometry

Geometry

I have over 14 years of experience tutoring Geometry, helping students master foundational concepts such as angles, triangles, similarity, congruence, circles, coordinate geometry, and trigonometric relationships. A major focus of my instruction is developing strong logical‑reasoning skills, especially for writing and understanding geometric proofs. I guide students through the structure of deductive reasoning—how to interpret diagrams, identify given information, choose the right theorems, and build clear, step‑by‑step arguments. This approach not only strengthens their proof‑writing skills but also deepens conceptual understanding and significantly improves overall performance in Geometry.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with extensive experience tutoring middle school, high school, and college students in mathematics. Pre‑Algebra is a critical stage where students first learn how mathematical ideas connect and where they begin developing the habits that make Algebra 1—and all later math—much more manageable. One of the most important shifts at this level is understanding how a variable can represent an unknown. This is often a student’s first step toward interpreting and solving word problems. I guide students through this way of thinking, helping them learn how to translate real‑world situations into mathematical expressions and equations. My approach focuses on building confidence with core ideas such as integers, fractions, ratios, proportions, basic equations, graphing, and problem‑solving strategies. I help students see how these concepts relate to one another, strengthen their number sense, and recognize patterns so they can approach new problems with clarity rather than memorization. This structured, supportive approach prepares students for a smooth transition into Algebra 1 and beyond.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with extensive experience tutoring high school and college students in precalculus. Over the years, I’ve found that precalculus represents a significant leap from algebra for many students. My approach is to help them continually compare and connect the functions they’ve learned—linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, radical, and rational—so they can see patterns, avoid mixing up concepts, and choose the right function when solving application problems. This structured comparison builds deeper understanding and gives students the confidence to tackle more advanced topics.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have over 14 years of experience tutoring SAT Math, helping students master algebra, problem‑solving, data analysis, and the advanced functions that appear on the digital SAT. My approach focuses on diagnosing skill gaps early, teaching students how to interpret question patterns, and guiding them toward efficient strategies that improve both accuracy and timing. My students have consistently earned high and even perfect SAT Math scores by learning how to think through problems, avoid common traps, and apply concepts with confidence. I bring a structured, supportive approach that helps students strengthen their foundation and perform at their best on test day.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I bring a strong academic foundation with three master’s degrees in engineering and computer science, along with extensive experience tutoring high school and college students in Trigonometry. Over the years, I’ve found that Trigonometry can be a major shift for students as they move from algebraic thinking to understanding angles, triangles, identities, and periodic functions. My approach is to help students connect new trigonometric ideas to what they already know—linking right‑triangle definitions, unit‑circle concepts, graphs of trig functions, and identities—so they can see patterns and avoid mixing up similar concepts. I guide them in interpreting problems carefully and applying the correct identities or relationships, which strengthens conceptual understanding and builds the confidence needed to tackle more advanced mathematics.

Excellent tutor who makes difficult concepts click

Venkat has been great with my daughter in Grade 12 Precalculus. He was able to explain things in a way that made sense to her when her teacher's explanations just weren't clicking. He helped her prepare for a test, and she ended up doing well, especially compared with the rest of her class. She also felt very comfortable with him and never felt awkward asking questions or saying when she didn't understand something. After just a a couple sessions, she was already feeling much more confident. We are really happy we found Venkat and would definitely recommend him!
