High school teacher with 20+ years experience in bio and chem!

Hello!

I have been a high school science teacher for over 20 years. During this time, I have taught grades 9-12 and all levels of biology as well as all levels of chemistry and environmental science. I am currently teaching AP biology and on-level chemistry courses.

Prior to beginning my teaching career, I received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a MS in Biology from Clemson University, and Pennsylvania teaching certificates in biology, chemistry, and general sciences from The University of Pittsburgh. I had the opportunity to spend five years working as a lab technician and lab manager in a molecular biology lab when I graduated from college. It was during this time that I was put in charge of the summer internship program the lab ran for high school students. It did not take me long to recognize my true calling! I have found that my time in the lab has provided me with valuable insights to help my students connect classroom concepts to real-world scenarios.

I have been tutoring students since I started teaching and have extensive experience with virtual teaching and tutoring. I believe that tutoring sessions should focus on a student's needs and give students the opportunity to practice skills and receive feedback. One of the most important aspects of tutoring sessions should be helping students learn how to learn. Every student is unique and learns in their own way. Figuring out your best study techniques will lead to success.
