Thank you for taking the time to review my profile. I am a high school educator with 20 years of teaching experience. Presently, I work as a math teacher coach in the William Penn School District for the Penn Wood Ninth Grade Academy. This means I work with the principal and the math department to ensure that we are incorporating the best strategies for helping our students achieve success in the classroom. Prior to my current position, I taught at Holy Ghost Prep for 17 years teaching Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and Honors Geometry/Trigonometry.
I have multiple degrees in mathematics, the liberal arts, and in secondary education. I first earned my B.A. from Loyola University of Maryland in 2004. I then earned my first M.A. from La Salle University in 2014. I decided to return for a second B.A. in Mathematics from Thomas Edison State University, which I completed in 2023. This past spring, I completed my second master's degree from St. Joseph's University in Secondary Education with a concentration in Mathematics, while earning my Level 1 Instructional Certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Now, that I have provided you with my background and credentials, I would like to talk about my philosophy on mathematics to see if you think I would be a good fit as your tutor. I believe that learning the subject is a lot like learning a new language. Sure, mathematics is everywhere in the world around us - especially if you know where to look. But for secondary school subjects like Algebra, Calculus, and Trigonometry, it can be difficult to conceptualize when teachers ask you to follow mathematical procedures without any real sense of why. I believe my role is to relate you to the material.
