I'm Sarah! I have been teaching English to middle and high school students for 18 years in a classroom setting, giving me extensive experience helping adolescents develop their reading, writing, grammar, and critical-thinking skills. I hold a master’s degree in Secondary Educational Leadership, in addition to my background and training as a secondary English educator. Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with students with a wide range of abilities, learning styles, and levels of confidence in English and writing.
My teaching approach is supportive, individualized, and focused on helping students become more confident and independent learners. I work with students to understand assignments, develop and organize their ideas, strengthen thesis statements and arguments, improve sentence structure and grammar, and revise their writing while maintaining their own voice. I can provide support with English coursework, essays, literary analysis, research papers, reading comprehension, poetry, grammar, and other secondary-level writing assignments.
After 18 years in education, I understand that students often need more than someone who simply tells them what to change. My goal is to identify where a student is struggling, explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them, and give them practical strategies they can continue using on their own. I especially enjoy helping students who feel that they are “not good at English” discover that they are capable of becoming stronger, more confident writers.
