During my career, I’ve blended two passions—teaching and writing—with my love for children. During my career, I’ve blended two passions—teaching and writing—with my love for children. While raising two kids in south-central PA, I worked as a freelance editor for 20 years (assisting publishers/authors). At the same time, I taught children of all ages, serving as a preschool music instructor, piano teacher, children’s music director and church director, homeschool teacher (ages 3 to 10), and volunteer tutor. I likewise assisted high school and college students with essay-writing and scholarship applications. Before I started my own family, I was employed 4 years as a Training Coordinator, serving 530 employees, and another 4 years as a Volunteer Director, recruiting children and adults to help at a nursing home.
In 2019, I became a substitute teacher for Washington County, MD schools, assisting at 26 locations (elementary through high school). Subsequently, during the 2019-20 school year, I taught elementary school children with special needs (K-5 to 5th). During school years 2020-2023, I served as a resident substitute, working every school day, two years elementary and one year high school, while also tutoring after school. From 2023 to 2025, as I continued to tutor, I was employed as a program assistant for an Adult Literacy Council.
Whether it’s helping a 2nd-grader solve math problems, reviewing geographical terms with a 5th-grader, or assisting a high-school student with an essay, I understand the importance of implementing other teachers' techniques as well as a student’s or parents’ unique requests. I have a knack for creating a fun atmosphere, exhibiting enthusiasm for learning, and explaining lessons in easy-to-understand terms. My compassion has been noticed by students and teachers alike, one who exclaimed, “Something always changes with the kids when you walk into the room.”
My goal is to make sure that every student not only understands but also excels. Hence, I continue learning as well. Please contact me to ask questions, schedule a consultation, or meet for a lesson.
