One of my favorite parts of tutoring is helping students move from confusion and frustration to confidence and engagement. Once a student begins to struggle in math, it can be difficult to stay motivated and their confidence begins to erode. By building strong relationships and repairing missed concepts, I help students regain both skill and confidence so they can move successfully through their coursework.

I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and Psychology. From 2005 to 2013, I tutored fellow students, college athletes, and private clients in math. After that, I taught in a private school for three years. More recently, I began homeschooling, which has given me extensive experience designing lessons, adapting instruction to different learning styles, and meeting students at their level. I primarily tutor middle school and high school math, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, and Geometry, though I also have experience supporting college students.

Students I’ve worked with have seen improved test scores, greater confidence, and stronger problem-solving skills. I achieve this through a flexible, student-centered approach: I quickly identify areas of struggle, break problems into clear, manageable steps, and reframe explanations until the concept clicks. While not everyone will love math, every student can become more confident and capable with the right support. I look forward to helping you strengthen your math skills and grow in confidence.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

As a high schooler, I scored a 36 on the math portion of the ACT. As a teacher & tutor, I have taught everything from 5th grade math through calculus, all of which is applicable to the ACT (well, not the calculus). I've also taught a diverse group of students. If the strategies you were taught in school aren't working for you, I may have another that will help.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a student, I got straight A's in math courses all the way through college. As a tutor and teacher, I've taught algebra 1 more than any other course. I believe anyone is capable of mastering algebra 1.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a difficult middle-ground, moving beyond the straightforward strategies of Algebra 1 toward the more theoretical problem-solving of trigonometry and calculus. It's meant to stretch you, but it's an important foundation to continue on toward higher level math. I'd love to help you build that strong foundation for the years to come.
AMC (Competition math)

AMC (Competition math)

I hold a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, where I graduated summa cum laude. I have 20+ years of experience teaching and tutoring Algebra I & II, Geometry, and problem-solving strategies. I specialize in helping students strengthen reasoning skills and mathematical creativity, key areas of focus for AMC competitions. I also enjoy tackling challenging problems myself and exploring new strategies for creative problem-solving.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is such a fun, unique math course! The subject pulls in different types of reasoning & problem-solving that other math courses don't use as much. Many students find they love geometry when they don't typically enjoy math, or struggle when they're used to breezing through. If you're struggling, I'd love to help you learn to think outside the box and feel that momentum again!
GRE

GRE

I’m a skilled math educator with a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Psychology. Since graduating college, I’ve built a strong personal reading habit, continuing to learn and grow as an adult. I also homeschool my four kids, so I have a lot of practice developing individualized study plans!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

As a teacher and tutor, I've taught everything from 5th grade math through college algebra. I have a clear picture of what you have been taught before pre-algebra and what's coming next, and I have a wealth of strategies and explanations to pull from. You can master pre-algebra!
PSAT

PSAT

With 20 years of tutoring experience and a strong math background, I help students prepare for the PSAT by reviewing key concepts, identifying weak spots, and building confidence through effective problem-solving strategies.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I hold a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, where I graduated summa cum laude. I earned top scores on the SAT Math and SAT Math II exams and have 20+ years of experience tutoring Algebra, Geometry, and advanced math concepts. I help students build confidence and accuracy to improve their SAT scores.
SHSAT (NY HS admissions)

SHSAT (NY HS admissions)

I hold a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, where I graduated summa cum laude. I am certified to teach high school math and have over 20 years of experience teaching and tutoring middle and high school students. I’m also qualified on Wyzant for SAT and ACT Math, which cover material above SHSAT level.

Makes Geometry fun and truly understands students' skill sets

Coming from a mother that is difficult to impress, you want Stephanie to be your tutor. You do not need to have any hesitation about whether she is knowledgeable in your subject area or how she will connect on a personal level. My daughter needed last minute assistance with Geometry homework and I knew scheduling with someone new would be a gamble. When my daughter’s session was over, without me asking, she came out saying she wanted Stephanie to help her for all of her homework and that the session was really fun. I was surprised to hear her say that she had fun, considering it was her first time working with Stephanie and “fun” was never a word I heard her associate with Geometry before. When I asked if Stephanie knew how to do the problems in her homework, she stated that Stephanie knew everything for all of the problems and that she could tell Stephanie knew all the areas of Geometry, not just what they were working on together. After the session, Stephanie provided a written summary, and my husband and I were shocked at her depth of knowledge of our daughter from a single session. She was able speak to our daughter’s skill set within the scope of the foundational, building block steps needed for the base understanding of what the problems represented and how to put everything together to work out the answer. She was not just helping our daughter get the answers to the problems, she was actually teaching and creating a marriage of understanding and execution. I now have peace of mind knowing my daughter will be getting the assistance she needs from someone who will make the work “fun” and leave her feeling confident about her ability to understand and work through the class materials. I could not ask for more in a tutor.
