I’m a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and Florida Atlantic University’s medical school, and a former Peace Corps volunteer. Throughout my medical training, I used science-backed techniques for efficiently retaining large volumes of information, which translates into clearer learning and faster, more durable results for students.

Many students who struggle academically begin to feel discouraged, often unnecessarily. My approach emphasizes structure, predictability, and reducing overwhelm so that math and test prep feel approachable, manageable, and achievable.

ACT English

ACT English

The ACT English tests a highly predictable set of grammar rules and error types. I prepare students for the ACT English by teaching the specific conventions repeatedly on the test —such as punctuation, modifiers, and sentence structure—and by helping students identify exactly what each question is testing. This structured approach helps students improve accuracy and confidence without overthinking or guesswork.
ACT Math

ACT Math

The ACT Math covers a large volume of material, but the concepts themselves are not advanced. The main challenge is retaining skills as you accumulate them over time. I help students prepare for the ACT Math using a structured, evidence-based approach focused on retention. Drawing on my background in medicine, I use spaced repetition and organized review schedules so students retain formulas and concepts efficiently without burnout. My students follow individualized review plans that make ongoing practice manageable and predictable, leading to strong score improvements — including perfect and near-perfect math scores.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

The ACT Reading rewards careful attention to evidence, efficient pacing, and consistent strategy rather than background knowledge or subjective interpretation. I help students approach the ACT Reading by focusing on building a fast mental outline of each passage and recognizing common question types. Sessions emphasize active reading strategies and time management so students can stay focused, avoid overthinking, and answer questions accurately within the time limit.
ACT Science

ACT Science

The ACT Science tests data interpretation and reasoning rather than background science knowledge. I prepare students for the ACT Science by teaching a systematic approach to analyzing graphs, tables, and experimental summaries, as well as guiding students to identify differences and agreements between scientific viewpoints. This method helps students cut through unnecessary jargon, manage time efficiently, and answer questions accurately. Because the section rewards strategy and pattern recognition, the ACT Science is often one of the fastest areas for students to improve.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I help students succeed in Algebra I by identifying and addressing gaps in foundational skills while keeping pace with their current coursework. Sessions focus on mastering new concepts while reinforcing specific core skills based on each student’s needs. This targeted approach builds confidence and leads to measurable improvements in performance over time.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I tutor more math than anything else. Many students seek help with Algebra and Geometry, and I find that most students are bright and capable but find themselves in classes so large that they can't ask questions, or with teachers who don't communicate in the way the students wish for. I have tutored home schooled students, students taking online courses, and students that go to local high schools, middle schools and colleges.
English

English

English can be a tough subject for some students. Words like subject pronoun, object pronoun, adjective, predicate, helping verb, adverb, preposition, and many many more, tend to intimidate students. Isn't a sentence just a sentence? However, there are some easy tricks that can make a big difference in a student's experience of English class. Often a little clarification and practice is all that's needed.
Geometry

Geometry

About 90% of what I tutor is math. Many students seek help with these math subjects. I have tutored home schooled students, students taking online courses, and students that go to local high schools, middle schools and colleges. Please reach out if I can answer any questions for you!
GRE

GRE

Thankfully (or maybe not so thankfully?) the GRE has quite a bit in common with the standardized tests you’ve likely taken in the past, so you’ve likely had exposure & practice in thinking the way the GRE wants you to think. The GRE math, for example, covers a quite finite amount of material from high school math classes. On the official GRE website, you can find (free!) four guides to help you 1) assess your knowledge in each content area and 2) brush up on any skills that need brushing up on. Once you’ve remastered these foundational concepts, you can consider actual GRE practice questions, which tend to have a bit of a twist - they usually involve multiple variables, and ask that you use what you know to determine how mathematical expressions relate to one another. The major technique that is effective here involves plugging in real numbers for the variables. Once you do that, the problem becomes far less abstract, and you can see much more clearly what the question is asking. This skill takes some practice - but it makes problems SO much more manageable and intuitive. It turns problems that feel like riddles into math problems that you know how to handle. Get in touch if I can help you master old concepts or learn new tricks!
Nursing

Nursing

As a graduate of medical school, I’ve had to learn - in depth - about normal human anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, and diagnosis/treatment of patients in many settings. If I can help you take a better approach to mastering the material on your tests, please do reach out.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Precalculus builds the foundation for calculus and advanced math, and gaps in understanding can compound quickly if they aren’t addressed clearly. I help students master precalculus by focusing on core concepts, patterns, and connections across topics, using a structured, step-by-step approach that reduces confusion and builds confidence. Sessions emphasize clarity and retention so students can keep up with new material and feel prepared for what comes next.
PSAT

PSAT

The PSAT Math section tests many of the same core concepts as SAT Math, making it an ideal opportunity to build strong fundamentals early. I prepare students for PSAT Math by focusing on the specific content and skills the test emphasizes, using a structured, evidence-based approach that prioritizes clarity and retention. Sessions are tailored to each student’s current level so they can build confidence now and be well prepared for future SAT testing. The PSAT English section is remarkably predictable and lends itself well to a structured approach. A student's fluency in recognizing grammatical errors is assessed and sessions are targeted using those results. Periodic retesting ensures stable progress and long-term retention with minimal relearning required.
SAT Math

SAT Math

The SAT Math tests a finite, predictable set of concepts. Success comes from knowing exactly what the test emphasizes and retaining those skills reliably over time. I prepare students for the SAT Math by focusing on the specific math the exam actually tests, using official College Board materials and the SAT problem bank. Sessions are tailored to each student’s current skill level and follow a structured, evidence-based approach centered on spaced repetition. This method allows students to retain material long term, reduce unnecessary re-learning, and make steady, measurable score gains with less stress.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

The SAT Reading Section should be approached by reading the questions first, then reading the passages. There are very effective tips - for example, find the thesis statement and topic sentences of each paragraph. This will ensure that you understand the main idea and author's tone - which are questions that are always asked. The toughest part of the reading sections is the timing - but there are certainly ways of increasing your pace, and improving your score.
SAT Writing

SAT Writing

The SAT Writing section offers one of the best opportunities for improving one's SAT score. There are fantastic resources - one of my favorites is UP Your Score, a funny but extremely effective guide to the SAT written by Ivy League students. Within the book are 13 essential rules for recognizing and correcting SAT Writing errors. If writing is your weakness, take heart - and go out and buy Up Your Score.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of the most feared math classes. Many students feel like they are learning a whole new language when they approach sines, cosines, tangents, secants, cosecants, and cotangents. Don't worry, though - with a little bit of help I've seen many students who feel lost become quite confident working with trig! From graphing trig functions to proving identities, a little bit of help goes a long way in this subject.

Absolutely Amazing SAT Math Lessons with Kristen!

I cannot recommend Kristen highly enough! From the moment we joined her SAT Math lessons, it was clear that she possesses a rare combination of deep expertise, enthusiasm, and an ability to connect with students at all levels. Her teaching style is engaging, clear, and incredibly supportive, which makes even the most challenging concepts in math feel manageable and even fun! Kristen tailors her approach to suit each student’s needs, breaking down complex problems into easy-to-understand steps. She goes beyond just teaching formulas—she helps you truly understand the why behind each concept. Her patience and willingness to ensure I fully grasped each topic before moving on really set her apart from other tutors I've had. In addition to her excellent teaching skills, Kristen also provided countless tips and strategies that helped me work through problems more efficiently and with greater confidence. She never rushed through the material and always made herself available for follow-up questions, which was so reassuring as I prepared for the SAT. Thanks to Kristen, I saw a significant improvement in my daughter’s practice test scores and my overall confidence in math. I highly recommend her to anyone who is serious about excelling on the SAT and wants a tutor who truly cares about her students' success.

A Gem of a Tutor and person!

My son has been working with Kristen for two sessions so far (SAT prep) and we couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. She is incredibly organized and brings a clear structure to every session, which makes the learning process smooth and focused. Her guidance is thoughtful and personalized, always tailored to address my son’s specific challenges. He said it is so nice to work with a tutor that knows the material well but also someone that I feel comfortable speaking to. Kristen has a positive and encouraging approach, she consistently provides detailed summaries that helps boost my son’s confidence. Additionally, the homework assignments she gives are very manageable, ensuring that he stays on track without feeling overwhelmed. We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Kristen.
