About Me:

Warm, experienced, and deeply invested in student growth — I bring 20 years of teaching and writing experience to every session. I have taught English and writing at private and international schools, coached students to top AP scores, and guided fellowship and university applicants. I hold a BA from Wellesley, an MA from Columbia, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Johns Hopkins. As a Fulbright Fellow in Creative Writing in South Korea (2016–17), I developed my own approach to storytelling, revision, and the craft of authentic writing. I now advise students — and other college consultants — on how to approach admissions writing strategically, helping students develop efficient systems for producing thoughtful, authentic essays.

I offer one-on-one hourly sessions to a small number of students:

AP & Advanced Writing: Many AP Lang & Lit students have earned 5s through targeted instruction in analysis, argument, and timed writing.

Creative Writing: Poetry and prose; students accepted to programs including Iowa Young Writers, Interlochen, and NYT programs; Scholastic award winners.

Admissions Essays: Brainstorming through final polish; students admitted to highly selective universities including Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, UPenn, Duke, JHU, Cornell, Northwestern, and NYU, as well as competitive graduate and medical programs. I also advise independent college consultants on essay strategy and admissions writing.

Not many schools put a focus on preparing students for the exam and kids don't realize it's important when they take it in fall of Junior year. It's possible to prepare for the PSAT and to do well on it, and it will grease the way for you to do many more impressive academic things and build your candidacy for a top college. Let me help you build your vocabulary, reading, and writing before you take it in fall of 11th grade.

For many years, I've helped students find their passion in reading. I often start with short sample readings to see what interests a student and build them up to longer texts from there. I believe reading is the single most important part of your education, and I'm committed to helping kids discover it. We need great books in this age of machines and robots. College interviewers WILL ASK you what your favorite reading is -- let me help you explore and prepare to answer this question really well!

I started teaching in a NYC Brooklyn public school, where I had 5 years of experience teaching kids Regents skills in the classroom. I also helped administer the exam to kids and assisted ELL learners in understanding questions.

I find it so empowering and really fun to help students with study skills. I love seeing how impactful students can be in their own lives by improving on things like time management and organization. I love titles like James Clear's _Atomic Habits_ to help students understand the science behind excellent habits! These are lifelong skills that strengthen other parts of students' lives -- the gift that keeps on giving. I can work exclusively with students on study skills or dribble study skills into my work in any subject or skill. We can all pay more attention to these very important skills!
