Hi, I'm Ilya! I'm a rising junior at the University of Pennsylvania, double-majoring in Mathematics and Physics. Mathematics has been a passion of mine since middle school, and I enjoyed the calculus sequence in high school so much that I wanted to major in math. I used to be an online volunteer tutor through UPchieve, specializing in all high school math subjects, and I found joy in helping students understand the concepts in their math classes.
I find that succeeding in math (and enjoying it) hinges a lot on underlying intuition, which is why, when I tutor, I try to focus on and expand on the questions the student has to build up their intuition. I do this by giving the student problems to work on after teaching any necessary material or introducing a topic, and going over the problems afterwards. If a student doesn't solve a problem, I focus on their thought process and attempts of solving them. Through seeing the student's approach, I can nudge them towards the solution without giving them the solution, which allows the student to solve problems in the way that best supports their intuition and learn something at the same time.
