Hi - I'm Julia, and for the last 13 years, I've been teaching literature and composition to high school and college students, ensuring that I get to know each one as an individual, and adjusting to their learning needs. Hi - I'm Julia, and for the last 13 years, I've been teaching literature and composition to high school and college students, ensuring that I get to know each one as an individual, and adjusting to their learning needs. As a certified teacher in Pennsylvania, I've had hundreds of students, grades 9-12, and have made it a priority to deliver challenging material with warmth and a sense of humor. I have also developed a specialization in working with students with various learning differences, such as ADHD, dyslexia, and executive function challenges - bringing students confidence is what I love most.

I have also spent the better part of my career working alongside hundreds of students throughout the college application essay process; I love to help young people find what's special and interesting about them, and help them organize and craft great, sincere stories which are never over-the-top - just an honest portrayal of voice and character, often with a fun and fascinating spin.

While I pursued my undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins, I majored in Anthropology, but creative writing - Writing Seminars, as it's called there - really called my name. It drew out my voice, and rekindled my creative nature. It seemed like a natural choice to pursue writing in graduate school, and so I did, studying English at Temple University, where I was mentored by the great science fiction author Samuel R. Delany. During my time at Temple, I discovered how few of my students knew how to write a strong analytical essay, and that was the catalyst to what has been a long and gratifying teaching career.
