In my past teaching and tutoring experiences, I have encountered a variety of learning styles and pride myself on finding creative ways to break down complex concepts. I have previously:
-tutored elementary students in math during high school
-tutored ESL GED students during college
-participated in a language exchange program while living in Germany
-served as a leadership coach during my PhD
-been a teaching assistant for a variety of engineering classes during my PhD
-supervised student science and engineering research projects during my PhD
-completed scientific communication training and produced a video of PhD research
-organized a science communication conference
The best experiences I have had teaching and tutoring are those where I get to know my students on a 1:1 basis. I value the personal connection that can be made in tutoring, and have always sought to build trust with students.
Throughout these experiences, I have demonstrated dependability, responsibility, academic achievement and accountability. I know the value of a great education, and look forward to helping students achieve their greatest potential through 1:1 tutoring.
I have tutored elementary and GED-level students in a variety of math subjects, and use algebra through pee-calculus regularly in my job. While I have always had a fondness towards math, I can understand how it can be an intimidating subject. With real world and personalized applications, I can show students how math plays a role in their every day lives and turn math into manageable subject.
