My name is Christina S. and I have been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years working in acute care hospitals in various roles. My jobs have included Interim Nurse Manager, Clinical Leader, Nursing Supervisor, Rapid Response Team Nurse, Code Nurse and per diem critical care nurse. I have worked the last 30 years in a critical care ICU department. I received my BSN at Gwynedd Mercy University and my MSN with a concentration in nursing education from Wilkes University. I am BLS and ACLS certified. I am a BLS instructor and Adjunct Faculty at Montgomery County Community (MCCC) College. I also have my critical care nurse certification (CCRN). I have been lecturing and doing low stakes and high stakes simulation for the college with first- and second-year students.
I have taught students of all educational backgrounds, traditional and nontraditional students and students with English as a second language. I started at the college in 2018 teaching in the Simulation and Lab Suite and worked my way up to being a Clinical Instructor and Lecturer. I teach clinical for the first year and second year students and help with Lab skills and Simulation exercises. I do meet one on one with students for test review and to offer them assistance if they need more guidance on a topic. We review test questions and do case studies as part of post conference every week with positive student comments.
I have tutored a number of nursing students that have graduated from surrounding universities, that have not been successful on their first attempt at the NCLEX. After tutoring, they all went on to successfully pass their state boards.
My tutoring approach is simple. I look at each student as an individual and tailor my tutoring approach to how he or she learns best. First, I start with a needs assessment, together we build a plan of study, use active learning techniques and apply to real world examples, and encourage confidence and critical thinking, and provide resources.
