Hi there! I am a current classroom educator and published poet who is looking to help students of all ages become better and more confident readers and writers. I hold three degrees from Kutztown University, including a Master's Degree in English and a certificate in Curriculum & Instruction. I have been teaching for over twenty years in the classroom and have tons of tutoring experience, which has taught me one important thing:
Tutoring shouldn't focus on what you are missing...but what you already can do!
In my classroom and tutoring work I like to engage learners with out-of-the-box content that will instantly get their attention. True Crime? Serial Killers? The Rise of Rap God Eminem? The Tragic Love & Life of Frida Kahlo? These are just a few of the thrilling journeys I take students on everyday in my classroom. I enjoy using all sorts of media, from documentaries and podcasts, to art, memes, pop culture writing, blog posts and even your more traditional academic texts. I believe in a well-rounded approach to topics which allows learners of all levels get engaged.
I have taught in the classroom from grade 8 all the way up to grade 12, but currently I have been on a ten year run teaching 10th graders, which is a blast every day (wellllll....most days!)
As you can probably tell, I bring a lot of excitement and positivity to the table....and I am an expert at finding the kind of content to make learning authentic and student-led. Many students say my classroom doesn't really feel like a classroom, with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves crammed with cool and strange books, carpets and throw rugs, recliners and bean bag chairs...and of course...the relaxing aesthetic of lamps and Christmas lights instead of overhead fluorescent lights.
I am just as excited working with students outside of the classroom and I can't wait to help out in all aspects of English, Reading, Writing, and Test Prep!
