Mansfield University of Pennsylvania (Applied Mathematics)
I've always had a fondness for math, dating back to 3rd Grade when I would challenge my teacher to math games. I wanted to teach as a profession but after two years of education training, I dropped Education from my degree and studied Applied Mathematics instead. I yearn to learn and teach math as much as I possibly can.
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Applied Mathematics. I was a tutor for the math department at my college.
Math is like art; in it's truest form, it can be beautiful. It can also be daunting. I am here to help foster the love for math that I have lived with all my life in others, and maybe help you make that grade. Josh has met with our 9 year old son twice now. Josh is helpful in explaining different math problems to him. Our son is comfortable asking questions. We will continue to schedule with Josh!
Josh taught my daughter in a way that she was able to learn quickly and easily. He is very patient and easily adapts to our schedule. We will be meeting up with Josh again soon.
Josh was great and helped my daughter in math with her first tutoring session. We look forward to working with him throughout the school year.
I hired him to help my 20-year-old son prepare for an aptitude test. I was very pleased, Joshua's knowledge, professionalism, demeanor, patience and ability to help was very good. I'm giving him great review because he deserved it. I did a Google search for tutors in my area this is what I came across. I didn't know what to expect but everything ended up being fine and was a good experience. I guess when you invite a stranger to your house you never know what to expect but Joshua was fine and again I definitely recommend him!!
Joshua was very knowledgable of trigonometry and it was evident that he loves the subject. He was able to help our daughter understand the material and feel more confident about the honors class that she is in. I would highly recommend Joshua as a tutor for any level of math. He is professional, patient, and scholarly.
He helped my son understand his mistakes on a geometry quiz and prepare for a test. He was on time, knowledgeable and kind.
Joshua is a great tutor. He is very patient and thorough. My 8th grader feels more confident about learning pre-algebra and said Joshua helped him gain a better understanding.
Joshua is a very helpful tutor. He explains subjects extremely well and goes at a speed that is easy to understand. He was also fun and easy going. He is an awesome tutor, and a really nice guy.
Joshua is very professional and courteous. He was on time, and on point. My step-son was very pleased with Mr. Joshua's mathematical skills.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was the tutor for the math department for my college, where I often worked with the entry level algebra students.
In the past few years as I've been tutoring professionally, Algebra is one of the most common subjects that I am asked to help with. It is also probably my favorite math to work with.
While most of my tutoring in college was involved with lower level maths, even entry level college algebra runs into high school level Algebra 2 topics later in the semester, which is actually when I had the most pupils to tutor.
In High School, I struggled with Geometry. In college, I learned a new side of Geometry, and it's been fun to work with ever since.
Geometry is the first subject I tutored in professionally, and it's personally my favorite subject to teach because it's very visual and fun.
I worked with many students at my college who were basically learning prealgebra in order to pass their exams to start in the education program. I also commonly worked with the entry level students.
Trigonometry is the one subject that most students struggle with, but is actually much easier than almost anyone expects. It's just Algebra meets Geometry, and working with it last year with two of my students reminded me of just how fun it can be.
