Hello! I’m Simon, I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Math and Classical Studies. Throughout school and college, I’ve learned that I love to teach, and that I am very invested in helping others improve their understanding and self confidence. In a classroom, the support of the professor or teacher has always been pivotal for me; I hope that I can provide that same support for other students!
My approach with tutoring has usually been to introduce a subject with specific easy examples, and then try to apply a general rule. I like to use mnemonics when I can, especially with equations or terms that are more difficult to remember. I also like to let students try things out on their own, and then re-evaluate my approach based on the mistakes they make or misunderstandings they have. Because I also want to build confidence, when I’ve had the chance to assign homework problems, I try not to make most of them too difficult. Overall, I approach every tutoring session with positivity
I have experience tutoring from high school, both as a lead fellow in my school’s Writing Fellows club helping fellow high schoolers review their essays, and as a volunteer tutoring a third grader in math. In the past year, I’ve also tutored a seventh grade student for the ISEE math exam. I would be most at home tutoring high school students, especially in SAT level math, but I have tutored middle schoolers, and would be able to tutor college students as well in latin, greek, and select real analysis, algebra, and topology subjects (message me for more information!). Please message me with any questions, and I will usually respond within a few hours!
