Hi! My name is Arissa, and I’m a recent Amherst College graduate with a double major in Political Science and Psychology. I’ve always enjoyed helping others understand material that initially feels difficult or overwhelming. Through my own academic experience, I’ve developed strong skills in writing, reading comprehension, research, critical thinking, and test preparation. I’m especially comfortable working with students in English, writing, history, government, psychology, political science, and other humanities and social science subjects. I’m also beginning law school, so I have extensive experience working with dense readings, analyzing arguments, organizing information, and communicating ideas clearly and effectively.
My tutoring approach is patient, encouraging, and individualized. I don’t believe in simply giving students the answer—instead, I want students to understand why an answer is correct and develop the confidence to reach it independently. I adjust my approach based on each student’s learning style, strengths, and areas for improvement, whether that means breaking a complicated concept into smaller pieces, working through practice questions together, improving an essay sentence by sentence, or helping a student develop better study and organization strategies. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more confident, capable, and prepared than when they started. I would love the opportunity to help you or your student reach your academic goals!
