I am finishing my degree in Biochemistry in Spring 2024 and am a Dean's List student with a 3.94 GPA. I am extremely passionate about science and enjoy helping others understand STEM concepts. I live for the moment when a concept "clicks" for someone and I take pride in my ability to patiently guide a person to that moment. I employ metaphorical reasoning to help individuals grasp new concepts. Then, I establish the concept using real-word examples to relate it to some other well-understood concept; or, preferably, some passion of the individual. This facilitates an organic interest in the material which catalyzes the learning process. Finally, I believe that teaching helps one to truly understand. Therefore, once an individual has a basic understanding of a concept, I will challenge them to explain the concept to me. This process helps strengthen the connections between different ideas and crystallizes an understanding of a concept. More importantly, however, it helps one build confidence!

I have worked as a chemist for 8 years, mostly in positions of leadership. I specialized in the extraction and purification of nutraceutical compounds from plants and have 6 years experience with distillation, chromatography, and analytical chemistry. I have over 10 years experience managing, training, and mentoring employees ranging in age from 18-50. I am a US Army veteran and served 4 years as a combat medic with multiple commendations and an honorable discharge. I trained dozens of soldiers in emergency medicine both in group settings and via one-on-one instruction. Additionally, I trained and certified hundreds of medical personnel in immunization operations and developed standardized training protocols that are still in use today. When I'm not engaged in science or developing some new hobby, I'm outside enjoying nature with my labradoodle.
