I am a certified Spanish and ESL teacher with a strong record of helping students build confidence, improve grades, and develop real communication skills. I have taught Spanish I–IV, Spanish for Native Speakers, and K–12 ESL, and I tutor learners from elementary school through adults. I have also designed workplace‑Spanish lessons for a small business so staff could communicate effectively with Spanish‑speaking colleagues.

I work with a wide range of students, including dual‑enrollment high school/college learners, adult professionals, and boarding‑school students. I individualize every session, aligning instruction with each student’s goals, learning style, and current coursework. My lessons and independent practice materials strengthen vocabulary, grammar, and overall fluency.

My background includes alternative education settings, where I developed strong motivational coaching skills and a talent for selecting engaging, level‑appropriate materials. As an ESL teacher, I supported students across their core academic subjects, so I am comfortable helping learners navigate challenging assignments and build academic language skills.

I have assessed language needs and provided personalized instruction since 1992. As a native English speaker who learned Spanish as a second language, I understand the common challenges and help students avoid them. My goal is to give learners practical tools, clear strategies, and positive support so they can exceed their own expectations.

My cultural and immersion experience includes a mission trip to Nicaragua installing water filtration systems in a rural community; a year of intensive study at la Universidad de las Américas in Puebla, Mexico; a summer immersion teacher‑training program that culminated in a week in Guadalajara, Mexico; and additional study in Madrid, Spain.

Clear explanations and great results for Spanish II

Heather has been an excellent tutor for my high school freshman who is taking Spanish II. She’s very knowledgeable, well prepared, and does a great job meeting students where they are in the material. They’ve worked through topics like stem changing verbs, present tense conjugations, indefinite articles, and tricky verbs like ir and the two forms of “to know,” all of which she explains clearly and patiently. What really stands out is how organized and resourceful she is. Heather consistently brings strong practice materials to each session and makes great use of tools like IXL and Quizlet, along with clear explanations and follow up guidance for independent review. She’s also very good at pacing lessons so the material sticks without feeling overwhelming. Since starting sessions with Heather, grades have clearly improved and confidence in the material has gone up significantly. My son feels much more comfortable with Spanish heading into quizzes and tests. Heather is reliable, effective, and genuinely invested in her students’ success. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a strong Spanish tutor.

Great Experience!

Working with Heather to create our Spanish–English workplace handbook was one of the best decisions we’ve made for our company. She built a clear, easy‑to-use 3‑column guide (Spanish, phonetic Spanish, and English) that our team uses every day on job sites and in the shop. The handbook has improved communication and helped our English‑speaking and Spanish‑speaking employees feel more confident working together. Heather took the time to understand our business, our people, and the real language we use on the job. She delivered a resource that is practical, and tailored specifically to our different roles in the office. Working with her has been lovely. She kept things simple for us—from planning the content to formatting the final version so we could use it immediately. We highly recommend her to any company looking to support their bilingual workforce and strengthen communication on the job!
