Hi there! I’m Jennifer and my love for writing led me to pursue two Master’s of Fine Arts degrees in Poetry after receiving my BA is in Literature/Literary Criticism. I take great joy in helping students grow in their gifts and discover the power of writing for their academic and personal growth. I am an experienced high school and college educator with over twelve years of classroom and online instruction. For decades, I have enjoyed working with students as a private tutor and writing coach. As an educator, I’ve created curriculum and instructed courses in Reading/Writing Development (WRD 090 and WRD 098), American, British, European, South American, African, and Asian Literature, Composition and Rhetoric, WR121Z/WR122Z, and Creative Writing Poetry/Creative Non-Fiction/Fiction. As a published author, I provide poetry workshops for folks of all ages.
In my experience, acknowledging a student's needs helps them discover confidence and grow. The writing journey is imperfect and lifelong: this is a cornerstone of my approach to teaching. My goal is always to invite a student into academic and authentic conversations about their writing and reading process, providing clear and focused instruction and practice to ensure successful outcomes. Students come from varying backgrounds, educational experiences, and learning styles; the foundation of tutoring success is creating a space for students to ask questions and puzzle through challenges with support.
As a current Writing Instructor at Clackamas Community College (CCC), a Learning Support Specialist at CCC’s Writing Center, an Associate Editor for Clackamas Literary Review, and a Clackamas Arts Alliance Committee Member, I am immersed in the changing world of education at all levels. I enjoy the experience of helping students as they prepare for college, succeed in college, and develop skills that are relevant interpersonally and in the workplace. I committed to collaboration and value professionalism. I would love to work with you and your family.
