I'm a teacher with a background in Early Childhood Education and High School. I specialize in English, Literature, and History. I've taught both 5 year olds and 18 year olds, and one thing I noticed about both ages is that for students to absorb and truly understand the information, it needs to be relevant and they need to start where they are. Learning is not a straight line. There are ups and downs. As a tutor, I am more able to move at the student's pace than classroom teachers are. This helps students feel more comfortable and confindent, and they enjoy the process more.
With a BA in History: International Studies, a minor in English, and a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction, I have a broad background of teaching styles and knowledge from which to gather strategies and different techniques.
I have a passion for reading and finding books that match with people's styles. Because I read multiple genres and age levels, I have a vast resource from which to pool. I have also written in a variety of styles and proof-read papers for peers and students alike.
History is about more than dates and what happened when. It's about cause and effect and linking events throughout history. I help students understand history not through memorization, but through causal factors. And, typically, the causes are what make history interesting, especially because those same patterns occur in our world today.
I look forward to hearing from you and working together to find out how I can help you/your student.
