Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

Having been a musician and scholar for many years, I have a well-rounded and progressive understanding of music, and am capable of tutoring beginner to advanced students in music theory, history, or performance. As all of these are interrelated in music, I believe that students ought to learn the practical as well as the theoretical approaches to music. With regard to music theory, I can help with sight singing skills, ear training and dictation, as well as general composition. I can also help students preparing for the AP Music Theory exam, for college entrance exams, or collegiate-level research papers. I have performed in professional orchestras as well as presented my papers in academic conferences. I have earned my bachelor's in Musical Arts and am now completing a double master's in Musicology and French horn Performance. I'm happy to help with any of your music questions!
French Horn

French Horn

I began playing the French horn about eight years ago, and it has become one of my central focuses in my life. I recently have participated in a few professional performance opportunities in recording and performing with a Symphony. I have had some experience with coaching friends on the instrument and I feel confident and informed as far as basic pedagogy and literature. I am currently preparing for a few performance competitions in the near future.
Music History

Music History

I have a passion for music history and am pursuing the path to become a professor of Musicology. I am currently writing my master's thesis, an extended research paper involving Spanish musician exiles in the twentieth century. I have been a teaching assistant and tutor for various music history courses over the past four years, giving me a well-rounded education in the field with regard to teaching it to others. I regularly consult music history textbooks and encyclopedias as well as scholarly books and articles to stay updated in this progressive field. Whether the topic is 19th-century Italian opera, 14th-century Ars Nova, or contemporary pop music, I can help you write your own research papers, prepare for exams, or brush up your music history chops for college entrance applications! I'm happy to help with any of your music history and writing questions. Trumpet

Trumpet

After 12 years of playing horn, I am now preparing my final Graduate recital in order to complete my Master's of Music degree. I am a skilled player with interests in modern and contemporary music styles (but I also love to play Mozart and Strauss!). In my degree coursework I have obtained knowledge in brass pedagogy and repertoire. I have also performed in professional and top student ensembles, and have competed in various brass and concerto competitions. Although the French horn is my primary instrument, as a boy my first instrument was the trumpet, and entering high school I also learned to play the trombone in jazz settings. I am capable of teaching and tutoring beginner- to intermediate-level students learning any brass instrument, and with regard to horn players I can teach students up to the collegiate-level.

Adam responded to my request for an urgent meeting with my son. My son didn't know I booked for an hour meeting, and finished it early. He charged me only for the fraction of the booked hour. Very kind and knowledgeable tutor.
