I bring over 15 years of passionate teaching experience combined with a Ph.D. in Physics from New Mexico State University, where I specialized in Computational Geophysics. My educational journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Computational Physics with minors in Chemistry and Applied Mathematics from the University of Colombo, where I graduated magna cum laude. This strong foundation, additional certifications in data science and computational technology, enables me to tutor across multiple disciplines including physics at all levels, mathematics through differential equations, chemistry, and programming in Python and MATLAB.
My teaching experience spans diverse settings and age groups, from high school students preparing for AP exams to graduate students tackling advanced quantum mechanics. As a university lecturer, I developed and taught course numerous courses. I've served as Instructor of Record for General Physics labs, co-lecturer for Calculus-Based Physics II, and provided over 200 hours of one-on-one tutoring during my time as a Teaching Assistant. My approach centers on creating those "aha moments" where complex concepts suddenly click. I begin each topic with real-world applications before diving into theory, using visual aids, interactive demonstrations, and step-by-step problem-solving to accommodate different learning styles.
What sets me apart is my genuine commitment to each student's success. Whether working with struggling freshmen or advanced students, I adapt my methods to their needs. Students consistently praise my patience and ability to explain difficult concepts multiple ways until they understand. One student wrote that I was "the only professor that took the time to get to know my name and seemed interested in what I wanted to do for my future career." My international background and experience teaching diverse populations, including first-generation college students, has taught me that every student can excel with the right support and encouragement.
