Hi, I'm Emma! I am currently working to finish my PhD at the University of Oregon and love to teach in my spare time. I graduated from Dartmouth College in June of 2019 with a B.A. in Linguistics and am currently in my sixth year of the PhD, again in linguistics.

Hi, I'm Emma! I am currently working to finish my PhD at the University of Oregon and love to teach in my spare time. I graduated from Dartmouth College in June of 2019 with a B.A. in Linguistics and am currently in my sixth year of the PhD, again in linguistics.
My academic background has given me several skill sets for tutoring. First of all, I of course have extensive experience teaching language (French and English) and linguistics. I am also a graduate of an Ivy League institution and thus have first hand experience in college applications and test prep. My work on a doctoral dissertation and several research grant applications makes me an excellent writing tutor and someone ideally positioned to help students learn to navigate the competitive fields of academia, from high school to college admissions to grad school admissions.
Since high school, my life has revolved around studying, documenting, and teaching language. Early in life, I began studying French, first in school then in my spare time. This led me to wondering about language structures, and eventually to the field of linguistics, which became my major in at Dartmouth. At UO, I have taught and co-taught a variety of linguistics classes, specializing in morphosyntax. My own research is on language documentation in Papua New Guinea, where I work on a language called Sa. I have also been teaching language since my sophomore year of college; I have taught high school English in both France and Tokyo, and I taught introductory French throughout my time at Dartmouth.
I love teaching because of the unique experience every job provides. Over the years, I have been able to experiment with different teaching styles and work with people from different cultures and with different learning styles, making me a highly adaptable and skilled tutor. This teaching experience, combined with firsthand experience getting to the top of my field, will enable me to help you or your student do the same.
