As a tutor I prefer students who play a part in their studies and have an understanding of areas they have difficulties within the lesson content. As a tutor I prefer students who play a part in their studies and have an understanding of areas they have difficulties within the lesson content. It is important for my students to understand the process of how we arrive at a solution and not the answer it self. My goal is to work with my students one on one and make clear misunderstood areas.

That said, I majored in education at the graduate level and specialized in curriculum and instructional technology. Besides mathematics I also specialize in writing papers and teaching English as a second language. As your tutor, I will work with you by concentrating on your areas of difficulty and if you prefer, we can work ahead of your classroom syllabus to prepare for upcoming classroom lessons.

As your elementary math tutor, I will take the time to test you and understand the level at which you currently function. This is not a bad thing. My goal is not to understand how smart you are, rather, to highlight specific areas that might be of difficulty and areas of weakness that need strengthening. I helped fellow students on campus and strongly believe I can help you too.

Ideally, we all need help at one time or another. My request to be your tutor doesn't mean that I know it all, rather, you will be part of the way to the solution. I will "question right" to bring your curiosity to surface and develop you ability to handle math problems and an affinity for the subject. You have nothing lose and everything to gain.

Common Core

I am qualified because in graduate school I majored in education with a specialty in Curriculum and Instructional Technology. To ensure all students are prepared and ready for success after high school, the Common Core standards establish clear and consistent guidelines for what all students should know and be able to do in in mathematics, English language arts from kindergarten through 12th grade. The Common Core focuses on developing the critical-thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills needed by students to be successful.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I usually discuss with the students about study habits in the classroom. What works for them? What doesn't work? Three important factors that come up for review are: goal setting,- here, students learn the process of establishing a goal and following through with a plan to accomplish the goal. The study environment,- In a busy household, finding a quiet place to read and do homework can be a real challenge. A well-lit, organized work space can make all the difference. And time management.-learning to manage time is a key skill for success at home and in the work-space. By incorporating specific calendar and daily-planner routines into your classroom, you are helping students build important skills that will serve them in the years to come.
