I'm Tim. I earned my Masters of Arts in Teaching with endorsements in English Language Arts. I have spent the last few years working as a substitute teacher while pursuing a full-time teaching career. An education is a means of finding opportunities in life rather than a goal in and of itself. Looking back on my time in college, I did my best work when I had teachers who not only presented interesting content, but also demonstrated a belief in my ability to excel. I use that approach in my own tutoring and teaching practices because when we expect the best of someone, they often rise to meet our expectations.
I have volunteered previously as a writing tutor at a community college, where I would work with students on identifying global or minor writing mistakes or concerns. I temper my feedback towards student-focused goals rather than identifying each and every mistake. During my time as a substitute teacher, I have primarily subbed for middle school teachers, and I have been called on to serve as a long-term teacher for 8th grade and 6th grade Language Arts/Social Studies with all the requirements of lesson planning, assessing work and modifying tasks based on student needs and abilities. When I introduce concepts or tasks, I ensure my students understand what's happening and provide explanations.
I hope that the students I work with grow from the experience and welcome any and all constructive feedback from both student and parent. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.
