Hello! My name is Jaci, I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology, where I built a strong foundation in biology, ecology, genetics, evolution, and physiology. Throughout my education, I gained experience in scientific research, laboratory work, and data analysis. My studies helped me develop a strong understanding of biology and taught me how to break down complicated concepts into simpler, more manageable ideas. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping students feel more comfortable and confident with science.
I have also worked as a NOAA fisheries observer aboard commercial fishing boats, where I was able to apply what I learned in school to real scientific research. My work involved collecting biological data, identifying species, and following scientific sampling procedures. This experience gave me a greater appreciation for how biology applies to the world around us, and I love being able to share those experiences to make science more interesting and relatable for students.
My goal as a tutor is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. I understand that biology can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when learning new terms and concepts. I believe everyone learns differently, so I like to use real life examples, visuals, and conversations to help make difficult topics easier to understand. I hope to help middle and high school students not only improve their grades but also gain confidence in their abilities and maybe even discover a love for biology along the way.
