Liberal Arts Tutor: English and History focus

Hi there! My name is Emily. I have a BA in Anthropology with a cultural linguistic focus. As someone who benefitted extensively from tutoring in their youth, I strongly believe that tutoring can change a student's entire educational experience as well as their perspective towards learning. Having access to a passionate tutor helped me not only succeed, but thrive. Tutoring isn't just a way to "catch up" a student, it builds confidence and critical thinking skills that will help them succeed in all of their educational endeavors. I strive to bring my passion for education to the table for every student that I teach. I believe in personalized lesson planning that takes into account a student's goals as well as their learning style in order to optimize their experience.

I began tutoring underclassmen when I was in high school as part of an after-school program and continued tutoring on the side for close family friends and peers throughout college. My tutoring experience has primarily been with students ranging in age from 12 to 23, but I am happy to take on students of all ages as the opportunity arises. While my degree is officially in Anthropology, I took a wide range of Liberal Arts courses throughout my college experience that I believe have refined my skills as a tutor. Thus, the subjects that I am comfortable tutoring in fall under the liberal arts and social science categories- such as history, art history, English, literature, and so on. My teaching style is one on one, and flexible depending on the student's needs and goals. I am available for in-person tutoring depending on the location, and happy to provide online tutoring as well.
