Middle/High School Math Tutor - Experienced, Patient, Mature

Hi, I'm a professional educator and mother of two (daughter 22 and son 17). I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. I have taught both middle school and high school math, but decided several years ago to focus on my tutoring business. I love what I do!

I'm looking for students who want to learn and improve their skills. Generally, I work with students once a week at the same time. We cover whatever they are doing in class, complete homework assignments, and/or prepare for tests. When possible, I try to find time to pre-teach what they will be doing in class. I find, especially for students who struggle, if I’m able to introduce the topic to them in advance, they are much more likely to follow during classroom instruction. Not only are students better prepared for class, but they have more confidence and are more likely to engage and participate.

For the past three years, I have been tutoring online. I find the virtual format to work well. I strive to use our time as efficiently as possible. I encourage students to come with questions and have an idea of what they’d like to work on. My experience allows me to jump right in and help with homework or find supplementary materials. I'm very knowledgeable about what students need to know to be successful in math. And in the words of a student I worked with for years (now in college with a nice scholarship), "Shelle makes math fun!"

I can help with any level of math, but I'm most comfortable with algebra, pre-algebra, advanced algebra, etc. Please message me with any questions. I'm happy to talk with parents :)
