I provide experienced, responsive tutoring to high school and college students. I have extensive experience working with diverse groups of students from all backgrounds, including developmental to gifted students. Tutoring is available in person (in the Central Oregon area) or online through videoconferencing. My specialties are academic writing, languages, literature, English, philosophy, history, drama, and psychology.
I attended Whitman College for my undergraduate work, during which time I tutored elementary and middle school students for ~10 hours per week to help pay my way through college. Following graduation, I lived and worked in China teaching English as a Foreign Language at a first-class engineering college (Northwestern Polytechnical University).
After working in China, I returned to the States to complete my Masters and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at a top program in my field (Comparative Literature) at the University of Chicago. During my time in Chicago, I taught English, literature, and philosophy to undergraduate students. I also taught academic, professional, and business writing to undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals, including business executives, lawyers, social workers, teachers, nonprofit managers, and many others.
I am a dedicated educator with a passion for helping students connect meaningfully with their learning. Overall, I have more than ten years of experience teaching college-level English, ESOL, and writing. I have also tutored extensively. As evidence of my qualifications, I have won numerous awards for my engaging, responsive teaching and tutoring, including on the basis of recommendations from my students.
