Hey there! My name is Elisa, and I graduated with a 3.84 GPA from the University of Southern California, where I studied Political Science. While I was at USC, I spent over a year as a student athlete tutor, working with football players and other student athletes both in person and online. What I love most about tutoring is being able to encourage my students' interests and find ways to tie their passions to their classes. For one student I worked with, incorporating television and music helped spark interest in the Spanish language. For another, encouraging exploration of the tie between finance and American history helped him get through a difficult assignment. With a bit of encouragement, one student channeled his interest in equality movements to create innovative arguments for a debate about gun control. I believe that this is some of the most important work a tutor can do-- fostering interest in the work a student is doing. From there, I work on providing support and guidance to get the student going in the right direction, explaining any difficult topics or concepts in ways the student can understand.

I received a piece of writing advice that shaped how I tutor writing ; "Every essay you write should have a larger meaning." In other words, my teacher explained, everything you write should say something larger about life, people, or the world around us. That is what gives writing meaning, he said, and a deeper meaning makes for excellent writing. I employed this in my writing, and have received 5's on both AP English exams, and A's in all four of my college- level writing courses. When I work with students, I teach them to use this same method. My ultimate goal is providing the most support I can for all of the students I work with. Legal Writing

Legal Writing

I am a 3L law student, and I served as a Research Fellow (another phrase for TA) and spent a semester walking four students through the process of writing their first ever formal briefs. I also participated in two legal internships that required extensive research and writing. I will recommend extra reading, provide handouts, and create my own writing assignments for practice if desired. However, please note that I do not provide any sort of feedback on school assignments for ethical reasons.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I am a University of Southern California (USC) Graduate with extensive experience in writing personal statements, both at the college level and for graduate school. I utilized my education in English, creative writing and personal essays from USC to write my law school admissions essays. I also have mentored several law students through this process and given lots advice on how to write personal statements over the years.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

During my college years, I spent three years on the Trial Advocacy (Mock Trial) team. This involved both prepared, memorized speeches and on-the-spot questioning of witnesses. I also have experience in formal speeches, having given speeches to hundreds of people. Lastly, I took several communications courses during my time at college, including a formal debate course.
Writing

Writing

I am a college graduate in Political Science. In addition to writing numerous academic research papers, I took a variety of writing courses in undergraduate, both academic and creative. I received A's in every one of these courses. These classes enabled me to build my skill and expertise in writing. I had the opportunity to use that expertise when I spent over a year as a student athlete tutor, working one on one with college students to improve their writing and academic performance.
