I'm here to give an extra boost to Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, and Physics students. I strive to give you ownership and helping you become empowered, passionate and confident. I understand the needs of traditionally underrepresented groups in academia, and I respect pronouns.

Mandy graduated with a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics from Cornell University in 2005 and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2011. She fell in love with helping others as a tutor in college. Since then, she has accrued more than ten years of teaching and advising at the high school and college levels. She has more than 20 years teaching experience and has been teaching online since 2020.

Each person learns and works differently, so it is about finding how best to serve you. Oftentimes, we can simplify problems by relating them to analogies in everyday life or divide them into smaller bites. Other times, it is about locating unknowns and using our resources such as textbooks and online knowledge. Sometimes it is just about practice. I look forward to meeting you!

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

AP calculus exam score of 5. 20+ years in calculus related fields of Engineering and Physics. Taught high school AP Calc BC.
Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering

I have taught Engineering Mechanics: Statics and Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics. Moving into more advanced courses, I have taught Fluid Mechanics, Deformable Body Mechanics, which is also known as Engineering Solids, and Intro to Statistics. In addition, I have supervised and advised college-level senior projects.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I have advised students in Dual-Degree and various ABET accredited Engineering programs including those at Georgia Tech, University of Washington at Saint Louis, and Columbia University. I have mentored freshmen through seniors in engineering physics, physics, as well as pre-medical programs, providing letters for Health Sciences committees focusing on student's professional, technical, and personal skills. I have mentored Women in Physics groups and reduced high-risk student dropout by 50% using early intervention and inclusive teaching. I have guided about a dozen seniors during application and transition into graduate programs, including Masters at Drexel University, Ph.D. at Johns-Hopkins University.
Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

I have completed college level and graduate level coursework and labwork in Electrical Engineering in topics including electromagnetism, DC circuits, AC circuits, signals and systems, motors and applications. I have taught these topics for 8+ years at the college level and co-written a textbook in applied electricity and magnetism. I enjoy working with students on Resistors, Inductors, Capacitors, real and imaginary numbers, Fourier Transforms, as well as different lab activities.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I have taught Engineering Mechanics: Statics, Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics, which are the two key intro courses that 99% of engineering students begin with. Moving into more advanced courses, I have taught two years of Deformable Body Mechanics, which is also known as Engineering Solids, studying internal stresses and deformations of different materials. In addition, I have supervised and advised several college-level senior projects in Mechanical Engineering, using my PhD knowledge in project management, materials science, critical thinking and data analysis.
Physical Science

Physical Science

Calculus based first and second semester Physics instruction. Tutoring specialized for mechanical and aerospace engineers. Engineering statics, dynamics and solid body mechanics.
Physics

Physics

Engineering Mechanics. I taught a college level course in Engineering Mechanics: statics as Assistant Professor at Juniata College. I wrote the FE/EIT (professional engineer's exam) readiness test to assess junior and senior's preparedness for professional licensing. I have privately tutored Engineering mechanics: Statics for two semesters, Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics for one semester, and Solid Body Mechanics for two courses.

Patient and Very Encouraging Tutor

Mandy was amazing at explaining and simplifying the most difficult physics problems. I felt comfortable asking any question I had on my mind since she constantly checked in and encouraged me to ask them. The pace of the lesson was very consumable allowing me to feel like I was able to learn so much in such a short time. Would definitely recommend!

Best physics and engineering tutor!

Mandy tutored me in statics, mechanics dynamics and physics. She is kind, patient and extremely professional. Mandy really knows the material and gives it over in a manner that makes it easy to understand. I feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful tutor who is so knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. She is always accommodating and goes out of her way to help me when I am in a last minute bind.

Great Tutor

I reviewed some series RC and RL circuits with Mandy. The project required solving for various resonance frequencies, time constants, and rise/fall times. Mandy was great at explaining the subject and raising questions I had not considered that further solidified the concepts. I highly recommend Mandy for your tutoring needs.

Outstanding, patient tutor

Mandy has been incredible as a tutor for my son. He is learning advanced basic math and enjoys the lessons. Aside from being an excellent tutor, Mandy's positive attitude, graciousness and affableness make for rewarding interaction. We would highly recommend Mandy as one of the best, most reliable tutor's we have ever worked with.

I am recommending Mandy to anyone looking for a tutor

Learn from Mandy! She is so kind and incredibly bright. Mandy always explains our work in detail and takes time to work with my learning style. She treats her students with respect and there are no dumb questions. I took mechanics with her and wish I found her sooner. I will be taking electricity and magnetism with her next.

Introductory Session

This was an introductory session with Mandy where I expressed my needs and expectations regarding future sessions. We also did some introductory work on Physics 2 where I was able to show Mandy where I am at in my understanding as well as where I could experience Mandy's teaching style. I enjoyed this first session and look forward to our future sessions.
