Hello! I have been teaching Algebra 1 for over 30 years. I love helping students become confident in their own ability to do math. In Algebra 1, many students find that they are overwhelmed with the details of problems, showing work, new ideas, and/or how to read word problems. I help students see patterns in the Algebra 1 concepts they are learning. Together, we build a strong foundation for both present and future success in their math classes. Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Hello! I have been teaching Algebra 2 in the classroom for 20+ years. I am excellent at summarizing the connections between forms of linear equations, quadratic equations, polynomial equations, rational equations, logarithms, sequences, and more so these topics make more sense in a "big picture" way. I can quickly pinpoint where the student is struggling and help them achieve confidence in any area. Often there are very new ideas introduced in Algebra 2 (e.g. completing the square) and I have a variety of visual tools to help students learn to succeed independently. I have been teaching and tutoring for many years. Calculus A/B is a subject that requires a flexible approach to problems and a high level of proficiency in Algebra skills. Oftentimes, students need a breakdown of Algebra options when finding derivatives or help with techniques to visualize integral problems. My goal is to set up foundations that allow the student to work through problems independently with confidence.

Hello! I have been teaching Geometry for over 30 years. I can help students integrate the new vocabulary and learn to break down problems into manageable parts. I demonstrate general patterns in proofs, and assist the student in making connections between Pythagorean Theorem, Special Right Triangles, and Right triangle trigonometry. I have been teaching or tutoring in diverse urban populations and am skilled at quickly pinpointing where a student is struggling. I have been teaching in the classroom for many years. Prealgebra is a topic that can be very difficult for those just starting out and getting ready for Algebra 1. I can help students gain confidence in reading math problems correctly, working through problems from start to finish, and identify and master the skills that are essential for future success in math courses.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Precalculus can be daunting. Proficiency is needed with many Algebra concepts (shifting reflecting, etc, piecewise functions, absolute value functions, rational functions, etc). I am able to quickly assess understanding in order to efficiently help the student with their current classroom material. I have a Masters in Education and over 30 years teaching and tutoring of all concepts including Logarithms, unit circle, solving trig equations, trigonometric identities, parametric equations, vectors, limits, advanced composition, and more. Trigonometry

I am able to help students see the connections and transition from right triangle trigonometry to circle trigonometry to graphing trigonometric functions and their transformations. Amazing Math Tutor!

Susan is tutoring my teen son in Geometry. She is knowledgeable and able to explain concepts in a different way from his current teacher so that my son understands better. He says her teaching style is "Amazing!" which is high praise as he is shy/reserved. He loves that she assesses how much of the concept he gets and builds from there rather than starting from the beginning. He is feeling much more confident about the class and the only concept he felt sort of shaky on he now feels like he completely understands. I am so pleased to see his confidence rebuilding.

Susan continues to serve as a knowledgeable, calming, empowering force for good for our daughter who has missed entire units of classroom teaching due to surgeries and health issues, thus falling behind.
