Hello! My name is Ms. M. and I can't wait to get started working with you. I am a fully certified teacher in the state of Washington, and my teaching areas include English Language Arts and Middle Level Humanities. I also specialize in college writing, and college test prep (SAT/ACT).

I started teaching as an environmental science instructor for 6th graders in the outdoors. I loved the community-minded, interactive approach to teaching, which I try to integrate into traditional education settings. My favorite part of teaching is seeing students use their natural curiosity to solve problems, explore new ideas, and gain greater understanding. I have taken this approach into middle and high school English classrooms, using technology and student inquiry to solve real-life problems. I take the time to get to know each students' individual learning challenges and provide specific strategies, finding that students are naturally more successful when they are engaged in the learning process.

As a tutor, I take a student-centered approach to help students build on their existing knowledge to get where they need to be. I believe in teaching reading and writing for each subject area, which helps students think like experts in the field. Wouldn't you rather become a scientist than study science? A historian rather than a student of history? This is what I hope to achieve for all my students.

At all levels of tutoring, I focus on close reading and literacy strategies so students can understand problems and questions. This results in increased understanding in all subjects. My students have shown demonstrated improvement on test scores and in grades.

I am a certified teacher for English Language Arts by the state of Washington. I have taught students in 7th grade English, 9th grade English, AP Language and Composition, and Visual Literacy, as well as tutoring students for college applications and scholarship essays. I want to help students become readers and writers so that they can learn from others and communicate thei
