My name is Kat G., and I’m based in Portland, OR. I’m a 2017 Engineering graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington, where I also pursued minors in Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering. My name is Kat G., and I’m based in Portland, OR. I’m a 2017 Engineering graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington, where I also pursued minors in Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering. Today, I work full-time as an engineer, where I apply problem-solving and analytical thinking every day—skills that I bring directly into my tutoring sessions.

Math has always been a subject I genuinely enjoy, which is what led me to begin tutoring as an undergraduate in 2015. Since then, I’ve continued tutoring students of all ages and levels—from K–12 to college students and adult learners returning to school. My tutoring approach is highly adaptive and student-centered. I tailor each session to the student’s learning style, focusing on building true understanding rather than just getting through problems. I aim to create a relaxed, friendly environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges at their own pace.

My goal is to help students become confident, independent learners. I guide them through their thought process, encourage critical thinking, and make sure they fully grasp each concept before moving forward. I believe patience, encouragement, and a judgment-free space can make all the difference—and I’ve seen that confidence grow in my students over time.

I also prioritize open communication and regularly check in during sessions to make sure everything is clicking. I use positive reinforcement to build confidence because I truly believe that struggles in math often come from gaps in understanding—not ability.

Kat is quite possibly one of the finest tutors we have ever had! Kat is one of the best math tutors I have ever had. I started taking lessons with Kat over the summer to help me brush up my Algebra 2 skills and stay ahead in my AP Pre calc class. She very patient when she is asked questions and she answers them all very thoroughly. She also provides so much extra knowledge that has not only helped me in my math class but also while taking my SAT. along with that she makes class super interesting and engaging which I absolutely love!
