I'm a CELTA-certified ESL teacher with two years of experience teaching students of all levels and ages on top of two years tutoring university students in English as a second language. I've worked in the United States, France and Morocco. I'm a CELTA-certified ESL teacher with two years of experience teaching students of all levels and ages on top of two years tutoring university students in English as a second language. I've worked in the United States, France and Morocco. My teaching focuses on the communicative language approach, which means that I want my students to do their own thinking and interaction, rather than me doing it for them.
When I teach and tutor I am constantly looking for new and exciting ways to engage my students and I have been successful at developing and maintaining healthy working relationships with people from all different backgrounds. I love tutoring not only because it allows me to be myself but allows me to get to know my student and tailor my lessons to their needs. In one-on-one sessions I can see the growth of my students. When I tutor I'm able to make use of my adaptability and deliver a unique set of lessons for each student.
I have been learning and using French on a near constant basis for approximately 10 years, beginning with my first year in high school when I began studying the language. I have tested at a C1 on the Common European Reference scale and I have conducted informal French lessons for individuals in the past.
I have been learning Arabic since 2012 and I am still studying the language. I have over 250 hours of formal language study and have spent over 15 months in Morocco, where I have spoken dialectical Arabic on a daily basis.
I received a CELTA in 2016. Obtaining this certificate required rigorous training, and the CELTA is one of the most highly regarded certifications in the industry. I have over 2 years of experience tutoring English and another 2 years teaching English in a classroom setting.
I have a B.A. In history from the University of Oregon's Clark Honors College, a school which requires rigorous work on behalf of the student. As part of this program I completed a senior thesis which focused on European colonial history in North Africa.
