I am available to help with any high school or college math or statistics course. I specialize in psychology and computer science, and I can assist with related fields such as political science, sociology, and philosophy. Regardless of the subject, I understand that my most important job is to have patience and understanding for a student's view of things.

My college career, Master's thesis, and performance on the SAT and GRE all show my expertise, but even more importantly I am an empathetic and thoughtful teacher who puts students' needs first.

I have a strong grounding in psychology and education, including a Master's degree in cognitive science from the University of California. I have tutored high school math for over a decade. Algebra 1 is an introduction to some of the skills that everyone needs to understand math well, such as symbolic manipulation of equations. As a teacher, I am sympathetic and understanding, and I emphasize a conceptual approach to learning (rather than rote memorization).

I advocate taking several practice tests and studying mainly in the subject areas most likely to see results.

Jesse is the best!

Jesse has made a huge difference to my teens 10th grade math and even was adaptable enough to deal with chemistry once before as well. He’s patient, kind and asks good questions to keep her attention (she has adhd). We have had many tutors and Jesse is really assertive with the lessons and gets right to it yet still remains flexible. So grateful for him!

Great first impressions - Knowledgeable and Patient

Jesse had math tutoring sessions with my rising 10th and 8th graders. He is patient and clear in his instruction. Both kids said he focused on strengthening their understanding on the underlying concepts and less on whether each problem just had the right answer. He asked for and immediately made small adjustments based on feedback on each kids communication and learning style. So far, our interactions and the help given is exactly what we need.
