Learning should move at a pace that allows students to fully understand the subject while building confidence along the way. I adapt my teaching style to different learning needs and use visuals, stories, and guided practice to make difficult concepts easier to understand.
I hold a PhD in Political Science and have an extensive background in coaching, teaching, and implementing software. I previously served as an Adjunct Professor teaching Local, State, and Federal Government courses. My tutoring experience includes working with elementary-aged students through retired adults in both classroom settings and one-on-one instruction.

Approved Subjects

Debate

Debate

I competed in Cross-Examination Debate and Current Events at Crosby High School, earning awards through UIL, TOC, and NCFL competitions, including multiple tournament victories in the Houston area. After graduation, I served as an assistant coach for my high school debate team and judged debate competitions in Texas and Virginia. In addition to Cross-Examination Debate, I have experience with Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum formats. My debate experience helped develop the research, argumentation, and analytical skills that ultimately led me to earn a PhD in Political Science.
General Computer

General Computer

I have extensive experience helping learners develop practical computer skills for school, work, and everyday life. My background includes educational technology, online learning platforms, digital productivity tools, and virtual collaboration software. I have taught and coached students, educators, and professionals, tailoring instruction to different learning styles and skill levels. My approach focuses on making technology accessible, reducing frustration, and helping learners become independent users of digital tools.
Interview Prep

Interview Prep

I worked for a non-profit organization providing interview prep guidance for the general public at free workshops (libraries, workforce centers, and high schools). I assisted folks who had long work histories and those who are interviewing for their first job. I am also the go-to person in my personal network for seeking interview advice and performing mock interviews.
Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics

I incorporated monetary policy and economic development into my education, with a strong interest in comparative studies.
Political Science

Political Science

My PhD research specialized in International Politics, but I also taught Local, State and Federal Government courses. City government structures are also a passion of mine. I love helping folks to associate their everyday lives to political science to help with understanding and interest.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I have assisted multiple audiences in public speaking success - from professionals in corporate speaking events to students with public speaking courses. My expertise started with my debate career, public speaking courses, and continued in presenting in academic events, and corporate presentation. I excel with folks who have public speaking anxieties.
Study Skills

Study Skills

As a Professor at community college teaching a required course for mostly first year students, I find I have to teach them how to study as much as teaching the subject material. I tailor study skills to the students needs. This includes accommodating learning style and competing priorities. My methodology includes practice in: active recall, note taking, concept mapping, and critical thinking.

Great tutor

Amanda is a great tutor. Our daughter loves her and she is helping her to learn how to think in terms of algebra. We could not be any happier!
