Hello! My name is Judy, and I love teaching QuickBooks, QuickBooks desktop version, and computer skills for those who may not have learned the basics.

I have a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in adult education. I am a bookkeeper and have had a full-time bookkeeping business for more than 15 years. My clients are mainly solo-preneurs who have independent contractors and are wanting to understand their bookkeeping better and/or grow their business. I have kept the books for individuals, for small business owners, partners, and S-Corps. I have two employees working for me who had no QB or QBO experience when they first began working with me, and they have gone on to get their own clients, based on my training program.

I'm here to take the mystery out of bookkeeping, so you feel confident using either software platform!

I have been an educator for over 30 years, and I bring a patient approach to my instruction/tutoring, even if it is to a topic that often causes people to "pull their hair out," namely, bookkeeping and computers! :)

I have earned a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont, earning a 4.0 and graduating with honors. For more than ten years, I have taught English to speakers of other languages in Munich, Germany; Panama City, Panama; Managua, Nicaragua; and in Winooski, Vermont, and Denver, Colorado. I have taught individuals in one-on-one settings, small groups, and larger classes. My students/clients have ranged in age from 16 to 80+. I love teaching complete beginners; however, I'm also experienced teaching advanced students preparing to take the TOEFL exam.

I majored in German as an undergraduate and lived and worked in Germany--both North and South--for almost three years. I have tutored several students over the years and am currently tutoring a former student of the German American school in Beaverton.

I am able to show students the beginning level of Excel, including teaching the basics of spreadsheet terminology, navigating the various tabs, formatting - both on-screen and in printed form, summation, and simple formulas. After building, correcting and expanding databases that literally contained millions of cells of data, I am especially strong at pointing out advantages and disadvantages to collecting data in various formats, according to how the database will be used.

I have a master's degree in how to teach English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL). One of the skill sets includes, of course, speaking. During my five+ years of teaching advanced ESL/EFL courses, particularly at the university level, I had to prepare students for their coursework, and this included public speaking. In addition, I was the training manager at a large public school district (70,000+ students) for the employees who maintained the schools. These employees trained the custodial staff on an on-going basis. In order for the employees to instruct the courses I helped develop, they had to complete a "Train-the-Trainer" program which I developed and taught. This course was an elementary public speaking class, which proved to be highly successful. Many of the employees stated that it my public speaking class was the most helpful part of the process of becoming an instructor.

In addition to being fluent in German, I am also fluent in Spanish, after living more than two years with local families in Panama and Nicaragua in the mid-90s. I was hired in these two countries to open a language school and run the language department of a private university, since I have a master's degree in teaching English as a second language. I enjoy breaking down a language into easily understood chunks or blocks of information, so that my students/clients can solidly build on this information. I believe that people can only learn a language successfully if they feel comfortable enough to ask questions and make mistakes, without fear of judgement. Thus, establishing a warm, welcoming rapport is of utmost importance to me, regardless of the subject matter.

Wonderful, skilled tutor!

My daughter has been working with Judy for several weeks now. Though my daughter is a third year high school German student, she is missing some very important basics and especially struggles with grammar. Judy has worked with her patiently and methodically, and I've seen great progress. Judy is clearly skilled at the German language, skilled at tutoring and very good at establishing rapport with her student. As a parent, I really appreciate her thorough written synopsis of every lesson. My daughter enjoys her lessons with Judy, and she is feeling much more confident in class. After only two weeks of lessons she had improved a full letter grade at the end of the term. She is also looking forward much more to her trip to Germany this summer and feeling that she may actually be able to speak and understand some German while she is there!

Judy has a very pleasant learning environment, has wi-fi connections for more than one laptop. I brought a bigger problem than either of us could solve during the training time, and we both learned more about QB online than what we set out to do. She was helpful, but my problem began before meeting her and it was bank-related. I've subsequently fixed that problem and may contact her again for further training time.
