I'm Benjamin! I graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. Throughout college and afterward, I became aware of the stark differences between professors' teaching methods, realizing that a teacher's style and impact on students can drastically impact students' academic success. The most important quality I've come to appreciate is a teacher's attention to each individual student's learning style and specific academic needs. I apply that quality to all of my students, catering both lesson plans and academic instruction to each of my student's strengths and topics needing improvement. I try to connect with students in a fun, down-to-earth fashion, first introducing topics using understandable language and real world examples/analogies. Only once the student can grasp the topic conceptually do I delve into the technical details. Instruction should be comfortable, accessible, and even fun!
I have 6 years experience tutoring mathematics (everything from algebra to discrete math) and computer science (topics ranging from introductory programming to data structures and operating systems). I have tutored students one-on-one and taught small group classes. In either case, I tracked students' progress diligently, addressing points of struggle/misunderstanding before they cause the student to fall behind or lose focus. I kept lines of communication open so that students with questions or concerns could easily reach me for help with homework, test prep, and conceptual understanding of topics. Additionally, I provided extra resources for practice and study materials customized to my students' needs.
My goal is to provide exceptional and enjoyable instruction to all of my students. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a learner succeed and truly understand.
