Hi, my name is Nico and I'm an English teacher from Portland, Oregon. I've been teaching English for about three years, helping students with conversational American English and academic and professional writing. I have a neutral American accent and years of experience writing and grading academic papers at the university level. I'm also a language learner myself, so I understand how it feels and what actually helps.

In 2022 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Spanish as a Foreign Language from Portland State University, where I developed a strong foundation in academic writing across linguistics, philosophy, law, and computation, and worked as a student-teacher grading hundreds of undergraduate essays in a course on critical thinking. I have since received several prestigious scholarships, including the Critical Language Scholarship and the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, which allowed me to study language abroad, and have helped several students craft successful application essays for universities and scholarships in their dream country. Alongside all of this I have spent three years teaching conversational American English to students of all ages, covering everything from exam preparation and accent coaching to grammar, vocabulary by topic (such as computer science or current events), and core language skills.
Each lesson is tailored to your goals and interests, built around a conversational approach. I start with a quick review of the previous lesson and a clear focus for the day. Afterwards I can send a summary, notes, and personalized resources for further study. With experience teaching students from all around the world, I've developed a solid collection of study resources, vocabulary and phrases by topic, and a clear sense of what makes lesson time well spent.
