Hi, I've worked as an ESL tutor and instructor for the past 15 years, both in the US and abroad. I typically work with global companies, helping employees and their families navigate the relocation process. I have a lot of experience teaching grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, writing, presentation skills, test prep, and language usage, but I have also helped people understand social and professional contexts.

Student Types and Focuses
Adult Professionals: I use listening activities and short articles to develop professional and social communication skills: language, sentence stress, idioms, collocations, cross-genre vocabulary development, presentation skills, and Americana. I use select vocabulary books to develop advanced vocabulary topics and focus on advanced grammar exercises.
Adults Non-Professionals: Typically, I work with non-working spouses. We work on basic skills, language related to managing a family, social networking, and job hunting or skill / hobby development.
Children: When I work with kids, the classes are fairly light and slow-paced in order to keep the kids happy but still learning. I do not tutor math.
Ages 4-6: For online classes, the parent must be present until it seems like the child can follow directions. I also limit the time for children this age to 30-minute classes. For the youngest age, we do vocabulary, lots of vocabulary, and that's about it for the first couple of months. For ages 5-6, we start literacy skills. I teach kids to read: phonics, sight words, and basic writing skills.
Ages 7-10: We work on reading (fluency, comprehension), vocabulary, writing (punctuation, sentence and essay structure), and exposure to the world through listening and reading activities. I have done a lot of age-appropriate world mythology, fairy tales, and National Geographic topics.
Ages 10-14: We do essay writing: grammar, structure, proofreading, thesis, argumentation and appropriacy.
