About Christian

Bio

My name is Christian, and I am a Media Composer. I write music for Film, TV, Advertisements, Games, and everything else that viewers watch on a screen. I also work in Sound Design, Middleware, and produce music on a regular basis.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, I moved back to my hometown of Portland OR to develop the media audio scene here. In Boston, I taught music for 5 years. I have taught students of ages 3 to 95, neurotypical to neurodivergent, beginner...

My name is Christian, and I am a Media Composer. I write music for Film, TV, Advertisements, Games, and everything else that viewers watch on a screen. I also work in Sound Design, Middleware, and produce music on a regular basis.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, I moved back to my hometown of Portland OR to develop the media audio scene here. In Boston, I taught music for 5 years. I have taught students of ages 3 to 95, neurotypical to neurodivergent, beginner to professional, and every combination in-between. With these students, I have put on live concerts, prepared them for auditions, and even gotten them professional paying gigs in the Boston Music scene.

I don't believe in a "one size fits all" lesson structure, I customize each lesson individual for each student every time I meet with them. It's not possible for every student to learn the same thing the exact same way, so after I help my students figure out exactly what it is they want to do and learn, I'll then build them a way to get there and guide them along that path. Some students find success through advancing through a book, some through learning standards throughout history, some through exploring new genres, and much more. Not only can I get each of my students to success, I can help them find out what they're specific version of success looks like.

At Berklee College of Music, I completed a Double Bachelors in Film Scoring and Video Game Scoring. Since then, I have worked with directors and game developers in a private capacity to bring project from silent to sounding independently. Starting in the Boston Music Scene, I performed and toured with bands on drums all along the east coast. I have played drumset in rock bands, orchestral percussion, and jazz drums in the House of Blues on Fenway. I have given private drum lessons to students of all ages and skill levels, and I make sure to prioritize that my students have fun and progress at the same time.

I have completed advanced ear training courses at Berklee College of Music, as well as tutored students on ear training courses. I have also conducted many hours of Orchestra in a Film scoring environment, requiring me to sightread scores, identify, and solve musical issues in an 80+ piece orchestra.

I began playing French Horn in local orchestras when I was in middle school and have since grown to play in professional orchestras around the world. I have taught French Horn at a wide array of schools both in Portland and in Boston, as well as played in orchestras such as the Mount Hood Pops, BCSO, Mt Tabor Wind Ensemble, and more.

I have written original score for film, played Brass and Percussion instruments professional for over a decade, completed a 5 year program in Boston for music composition, and taught music for over 5 years.

I have played rhythm guitar in rock bands, classical guitar on cruises, and jazz guitar in the House of Blues on Fenway. I have given private guitar lessons to students of all ages and skill levels, and I make sure to prioritize that my students have fun and progress at the same time.

I have produced music and sound design for 10+ years using Logic, CuBase, Ableton, Reaper, and other DAW's. I am fluent in most commercial music software and produce hours of music every month. I have completed a music production degree from Berklee College of Music.

I have played and performed piano professionally since I was a child, and it is now a practical skill I use in my everyday work. Being a Media Composer, I play every instrument you may here in a film score on a piano. That forces me to have a much wider understanding and skillset of piano playing than usual, and with my education background, I can bring that understanding to a student.

I began playing Trumpet in local orchestras when I was in middle school and have since grown to play in professional orchestras around the world. I have taught Trumpet at a wide array of schools both in Portland and in Boston, as well as played in orchestras such as the Mount Hood Pops, BCSO, Mt Tabor Wind Ensemble, and more.

He def knows his music-scoring software!

I am (was) a frustrated novice at writing out sheet music. I tried (started) and gave up on Sibelius a decade ago bc it was too complicated. But I decided to re-boot and Christian got me comfortable with all kinds of features that make it easier (and easier as time goes on). So -- satisfied student, for sure.
