Bio

I have an undergraduate interdisciplinary degree in Human Studies and Science, a masters in teaching and a masters in administration. Currently, I am a certified sub in a Special Ed classroom for the remainder of this 2024 school year. I am wanting to continue teaching in the future as a tutor. One-on-one reading instruction is more focused and productive and less distractive for children who often struggle with learning in a full/busy classroom.

I have had an amazing tenure as an educator. My references are available on request. They are from superintendents, principals, teachers, parents and students. I will let them speak for themselves if you are interested in seeing them.

My experience as a reading intervention specialist spans 29 years. Some of this time was as a kindergarten, first and/or second grade classroom teacher...in public, private and charter schools. During these 29 years, I have tutored within various schools as well as being a private tutor for ages 6-12.

I've been asked to train teachers with how I get the big gains in reading. First of all, I get to know the child and how they prefer to learn by taking a Multiple Intelligences Inventory. We talk about their interest, as well as their likes and don't likes with reading and writing. Once I have those authentic assessments, I find their level of difficulty with sight word recognition, code knowledge, auditory processing, phoneme segmentation and blending tasks. The results of these assessments and surveys drive my instruction.

Besides teaching the needed basics, I often use project-based activities that have proven to be students' favorite way of learning i.e., Scottish Storyline which teaches character, setting, plot, etc.
