I have over 25 years of experience teaching English and Humanities in Russia and the United States. I moved to Russia after graduating from the University of Hawaii with a double major in Philosophy and Russian. In Moscow, I entered Moscow State University and graduated with a Master's Degree in Linguistics and Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. I used my knowledge of Russian to teach English to Russian speakers and to know the challenges and mistakes they face. I taught both Business English at multinational companies in Moscow, and then I went on to teach at public schools. In addition, I gained experience teaching test preparation for TOEFL and IELTS, as well as essay writing for college applications.
Recently, I have moved back to the United States and have experience teaching Elementary and Middle School English Language Arts and Social Studies at a Montessori public charter school in Texas. In addition to ELAR, I teach U.S. History, Texas History, and World Geography. I am also involved in homeschool co-ops where I organize lessons in Creative Writing and Philosophy.
My teaching methodology emphasizes the importance of fun and following the passions of the student. I first learn what motivates the student, and then leverage those interests to engage the student and facilitate learning. I also have experience and good rapport working with neurodivergent students.
