David W, M.D. is a physician, astrobiologist, space medicine researcher, science communicator, and author, whose public appearances explaining science have included Oregon Public Broadcasting TV and numerous panels and interviews on various podcasts and radio shows. David is director of medical research for a startup science technology company and authors continuing medical education materials (CME) for physicians and is a contributor to Medscape and to various magazines and other media outlets,. He also authors practice questions and answer explanations for the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), and other such exams. Not only has he written practice test questions for these and other exams and for related science topics, but he has experience tutoring students of a range of levels, from college through medical students, nursing students, and other health science learners.

David loves explaining many of the very subjects that often scare students in medical school, premedical students, and those studying, or preparing to study, in the health sciences. Rather than teaching you mnemonics and helping you to memorize without understanding, as is common in the health sciences, David will help you to understand the material, so that you don't need to memorize, except when absolutely necessary. As an example, if you to learn which ECG leads show pathology in which parts of the heart, you can do this by learning the electrophysiology and deriving what shows what based on the locations and polarities of each electrode. If you expect to memorize everything without conceptualizing, do not seek David as a tutor. But if you want to be one of the students who knows --and enjoys-- the material, because it makes sense, contact David and he will guide you through the beautiful mechanisms that manifest from the molecular to the gross level in physiology, biochemistry, and all of the areas that may be giving you trouble. He can tutor you in English, or in Spanish.

American History

American History

I tutor a lot of science and medicine on this platform, but I am the author of a popular book on the history of science and space exploration that includes a great deal of American History. Also, since I write a lot of research papers, I have skills that crossover to history that can be useful.
Anatomy

Anatomy

As medical doctor (MD) doing research in aerospace physiology, who tutors all the basic medical sciences, I live and think anatomy all day. I'm experienced tutoring health professionals and health students, including nurses and nursing students, as well as medical students and residents, physician assistant students and PAs, physical therapy students, respiratory therapy students, and others. I work as an expert in biomedical technology and as a fairly visible science communicator who discusses biology and other life sciences in public.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I'm a medical doctor and scientist with experience tutoring all of the basic medical sciences, including biochemistry. Additionally, I have written MCAT and medical school level test prep questions in a biochemistry text book and have authored biochemistry and biology educational modules for the CUNY VisionLearning program. I love helping students learn to enjoy biochemistry.
Biology

Biology

I am a biologist --a NASA-trained astrobiologist-- who works as an expert in biomedical technology and as a fairly visible science communicator who discusses biology and other life sciences in public. I also tutor basic medical sciences and clinical medicine, so I am practiced at applying biology. Furthermore, I have authored various biology and biochemistry educational modules on the CUNY-VisionLearning site.
Botany

Botany

I'm a NASA-trained astrobiologist, who has sent various organisms into space to study effects of space radiation. The organisms have included seeds of the plant Arabidopsis thaliana. I also have authored various pieces of college level biology education content, including biology modules for the City University of New York (CUNY) John Jay College "Vision Learning" program,
Genetics

Genetics

I'm a medical doctor and scientists who tutors multiple medical topics and licensing exams for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and others, with medical genetics being one of my prime areas. I also have more than a decade of experience creating medical education content and with more than a decade of science journalism experience. Relevant to the genetics topic, I have more than five years experience creating continuing medical education (CME) and medical test prep materials in medical genetics. I also have several years of content creation for the Genetic Literacy Project (GLP).
Hebrew

Hebrew

I lived in Tel Aviv for several years and have various relatives and friends living in Tel Aviv and in other parts of Israel. I'm a graduate of Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine, where I had to communicate with patients in Hebrew and I do make trips to Israel.
MCAT

MCAT

I'm a medical doctor (MD) with experience tutoring the MCAT and related professional entrance exams. I have helped students a lot with biological and biochemical foundations of living systems, with CARS, and other sections. I also advise on medical school applications, medical school interviews, and residency interviews. I have several years of experience authoring, and consulting on, medical education content. Such content includes continuing medical education (CME) for boarded physicians of multiple specialties and also includes test prep materials for exams, including the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) and MCAT. Materials that I have authored in connection with this exams include sample questions and explanations of correct answers and distractor choices.
NCLEX

NCLEX

As medical doctor (MD) who tutors all the basic medical sciences, I have been tutoring, not only the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), but also other tests for health professionals, including NCLEX, HESI, PANCE, and others. My understanding of the needs of medical students and other professionals, including nurses and nursing students, has carried over and enabled me to help a good amount of nurses preparing for NCLEX and other exams, such as HESI. For similar reasons, I have been working with Nurse Practitioner (NP) learners, medical residents, physician assistant students and PAs, physical therapy students, respiratory therapy students, and others. I work as an expert in biomedical technology and as a fairly visible science communicator who discusses biology and other life sciences in public.
Nursing

Nursing

I am a medical doctor (MD) who is experienced tutoring health professionals and health students, including nurses and nursing students, as well as medical students and residents, physician assistant students and PAs, physical therapy students, respiratory therapy students, and others. I'm an MD with several years of experience authoring, and consulting on, medical education content. Such content includes continuing medical education (CME) for boarded physicians of multiple specialties and also includes test prep materials for exams, including the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) and MCAT. My topics are heavy on physiology, biochemistry, and endocrinology, all of which are intricately interwoven with nutrition, so I do have nutrition expertise.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I'm an MD with several years of experience authoring, and consulting on, medical education content. Such content includes continuing medical education (CME) for boarded physicians of multiple specialties and also includes test prep materials for exams, including the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) and MCAT. All of this work has included a great deal of pharmacology, a subject that I also have experience tutoring. My approach to pharmacology tutoring is to help the student to understand the pharmacological mechanisms and the underlying physiology, thereby minimizing the need to memorize.
