Amazing tutor - one of the best on Wyzant
I'm a high schooler and recently got an opportunity to intern at a bioinformatics lab. I was suddenly hit with so many difficult biology/computer science concepts and didn't know what I was doing. My first prompt was setting up a DNA sequencing pipeline, so I matched with Shawn and we tried to figure it out together. The software was hard to work with and both of us were confused. I gave up for the night, but what I was not expecting was to see Shawn's message a few days later saying he had figured it out, found a way to make the software work, and was attaching the sequencing files. He worked well outside class hours to help me achieve my goal, and this was the first time I had ever worked with such a passionate instructor. Highly Insightful & Engaging Tutor
Shawn is articulate and to the point, capable of bringing down high-level biology theories and concepts to my high schooler’s level of understanding. My 15-year-old was initially unsettled that Shawn did not have a pile of test prep questions to walk her through as requested. However, she was then completely blown away by his alternative style of teaching, depth of knowledge, and extreme passion for all the topics covered. This set a different tone, motivated her in an unusual way, and improved her grades from Bs to As.
