I am Beth. I have spent most of my professional life immersed in language and words, whether as a college writing instructor, writing and English tutor, or as a professional writer and editor. All are interconnected. At its core, teaching has made me a much better writer, and my work as a writer makes me a more effective instructor. More importantly, I have developed a much stronger understanding of the role of a writing tutor and coach, and how that translates into academic confidence and success.

I have my PhD in American Culture Studies with a primary areas in 20th century American history and sociology of culture. In addition to teaching American culture/studies, I have regularly been teaching sections of SOC110 Introduction to Sociology since fall 2016. A required part of each class is to direct student research and writing.

For many, writing can be one of those areas that creates frustrating obstacles. I know from my own academic experiences as well as working with students that there are many paths to getting beyond those obstacles. As an instructor or tutor, I seek to understand students' needs and goals, then adapt my approach to meet those needs. This is supported by helping students identify strategies and tools they can use across and beyond academic programs.

Knowledgeable, patient and very flexible tutor

Beth so nicely stepped in at the last minute to help my college freshman son with a small project. She was very good with him. He would use her again for future assignments.

APA 7 Super Editor

I reached out to Beth in the final hours of completing my thesis - I was struggling with some of the APA 7 changes and she was able to accommodate me quickly and professionally. Highly recommend her services!
